Do the trial versions of Direct FTP...
I'm trying the ftp program mentioned above and have had a frustrating time getting through it as its my a first time to try and edit changes in my website. The changes I made using the delete file icon in the remote pane on my website, although deleting files from the pane, made no difference to the actual site when I reopened it, although the info given in the help PDF says that remote editing is possible and can be done without downloading the file first. I've tried both ways but with no success. Am I doing something incorrectly or is it because the trial or free versions don't allow any saving of editing changes?
I did notice that the save button doesn't seem to be active. I hope you can resolve this for me as I'm reluctant to but a piece of software that won't work easily for me. Your'
s, to its credit, appears to be the most intuitive interface of any ftp programs I checked on the web, so I hope you can resolve this issue for me asap. Thanks.H

huh99, Hi there. Well, the FREE FTP from CoffeeCup does not allow direct editing. This should have no affect on your ability to DELETE or upload files to/from your server. What it means by 'direct editing' is that you can open an html, xml, css, or similar file in the Direct FTP program and make changes to it then save it back to your server without ever having to open another program. Direct FTP will do it all. But only in the paid version, not the FREE.
Now the 'Trial' version is suppose to be fully functional for 7 days. So it should let you edit files on the server.
Again, this should have no affect on deleting and/or uploading files. Both versions should do that just fine.
Your question about the save button is related to the FREE FTP I assume. Since you cannot edit files on the server the save button would be in-active.
Hope this all helps. Let us know if you need anything more.

Also clear your browser cache when you make changes if the changes do not show up to you. That will usually fix issues where you know you made visible changes, yet the page is still showing the old one.
Ok, thanks guys, I'll try the clear cache idea as its the only one, short of buying the full version, that might be different to what I've done already. I figured it would be a lot simpler to use after reading the pdf, but have been disappointed so far. I think I need a fully flegged web designer to talk me through it step by step.
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
