the answer is in the names

SCCP is the actual cart system, this will create a complete shop from a template (large selection) as optional extras, few free ones with the cart, inbuilt ftp, all you need is hosting and you have a basic shop ready to take money :):):):):):):):):)

SCDP if you want your shop to stand out from the crowd, this will let you re design the templates, modify thumbnail and images sizes (VERY IMPORTANT) especially like me selling jewellery. and change fonts all sorts :: BUT you can manage without it, especially if you use your noddle,

;) give it a free fully functional trial run and see where it gets you ;)

My delorean site in signature below will give you some idea, and there plenty in hear achieved a lot more than me with the designer, hours and hours of fun, if you have the time.

You will get plenty of help from forum bunch, dont be shy to ask for help

If you have never had an internet shop before, let us know, we can give you some early pointers , save you changing things later on

Oh and if you select subscribe above the system will email you when theres a new reply to your question

Like Viv stated SCDP is just for designing the shop beyond the built in templates. SCCP is the real meat and potatoes of the shop where custom mods like slide shows and other html is added. Take a look at the shop in my sig. That was done almost completely in SCCP with a stock theme. The only thing I did to the theme in SCDP was remove the Beta Pro Image from the Header.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

SCCP is what you use to create the shop, it's the actual shop software and you NEED this to make a the shop. All the product data is entered with this program.

SCDP is a theme creator/editor, has nothing to do with the shop part itself, it has to do with making the shop "pretty". You do not "need" this to make the shop at all, only if you want to alter the default graphics, logo, etc. It is highly recommonded that you get them both though as they work hand in hand together and to be honest, there's not many I know that don't want to change the logo image, or spacing of things on pages, sizes of images etc. All that is done in the Designer program.

Hope that helps tell you the difference.

Hiya Epsilon,
Glad to help, they are great programs and worth buying both Pro versions. Good luck whichever way you decide to go :)

ok, so i just purchased both and i thought i can take one of the themes in SCDP and modify it then open it in SCCP to up load the contents or even the other way around but still guessing on why i needed both, looks like i could use SCCP to get the theme, and build into it but SCDP seems like i can build and tweak the theme but not add content ?

newbie here :)

I usually have both open at the same time. My preference is to start with SCDP and get the look of the shop done first (whether from a theme or my own design). Export this to SCCP and add the products, text, etc. Preview and then go back to SCDP if things need to be tweaked.

So, in SCDP, don't worry about your actual content – your just setting the style of your cart here – colors, fonts, graphics, margins, etc.
After you export to SCCP, these choices get applied to your cart, but you'll only see the end result in preview or when the cart goes 'live'.
