It is not normal, and it has nothing to do with the programme being free. Could it be some background process running on your computer? If you have another computer to try the Free Editor on, check to see if it is different.

Also, did you install the programme to its default location? If you did not, that might be a reason.

You could try downloading and installing a trial version of the paid version of the HTML Editor and see if that runs better. You may have to uninstall the free version while testing this.

No, there's nothing running in the background.

I would buy the Editor but I recently spent $69 for TopStyle and I am kind of reluctant to spend another $69 for another piece of software that doesn't seem to be running without problems.

I just found out that the same delay shows when I hit F12 to display the split screen.

Looks like that application does have a bug.

What OS are you using and when was the last time you formatted your computer? Do you have any security apps installed that could be interfering with your system? Have you tried to replicate this issue on another system?

My OS is win 7 64-bit.
I have not formatted my PC since the install of win 7.
I clean the HDD once a week with CCleaner and run Auslogics DiskDefrag after that.
I have COMODO firewall and Avast Antivirus installed.
All other applications run perfectly normal, no delay in typing whatsoever.
The delay only shows when I have the preview (F11) on or the split screen (F12) on.
I have only one system so no, I have not been able to replicate on another system.

Can someone assure that the purchased version does not show the same problem?

I know from 10 years of experience, that the delay never ocurred on any of my systems, except the odd occurence in cases where the files were saved to a cloud device or some other device connected via usb and if I had a google map or some other js heavy script on the pages, AND the external preview open. Just sometimes, not every time. I had winXP when I started using the html Editor (version 2004a I think), which was free since it was already old, and came with a magazine I subscribed to. And I have updated the OS and the Editor versions since then, as they appeared.

Nobody can assure that the same will apply in your case. You may have some programme that causes the delay, without any of us having been able to identify it.
If you would take the trouble of reformatting, then installing the Editor as the first programme as soon as you are up and running again, and then reinstall app by app, always checking if this delay is there or not, then you may eventually find the culprit.

Have you tried doing a clean reinstall? If not I would try that before anything else, surprised that it hasn't been suggested already as that's usually what Scott says right off the bat and a few others do as well.

Try that and see if it's still there as that's definitely something on your end.

I too have used the HTML Editor for many many years, I believe since around 1996 or 1998 or so when I also started with the free version. I've never had that issue happen other than when the program was being newly designed and in Beta when they added the Preview Window and that all went away as they updated it so I'm sure that it's not that. I'm pretty sure it's on your end and you'll need to track that down, but...

Try the clean reinstall and if you're not sure what to do for a "clean" reinstall, contact Support and I'm sure they will help you or Scott or someone will post the steps for you here.

Hope you find it as the HTML Editor is really a nice editor.

I'll try the clean reinstall, that seems reasonable but I won't go through all the hassle that comes with reformatting the HD. I'd rather stick with TopStyle although it's no longer supported. After all, I have paid for it.
