Hi Everyone,

I found out about CoffeeCup via a local computer repair shop in town, so far I like what I see and read! I'm visually impaired and currently do not work but am looking to get into web design. I know some HTML but it's been years since I dabbled. Going to use the VSD for my aunt's site.

My aunt has asked me to help her with a website but I have a few questions:

1. She would like to link to Facebook and Twitter, is this possible?
2. At this point she only wants 2 pages, can I expand her site later on?

At some point in the future I would also like to create a website for myself. What software package would allow me to manage both my aunt's site and my future one?

Thank you,

Beth

Hiya eabartus,

VSD should handle most of the needs you have if you're looking for a Visual style of editor. If you already know "some" HTML it would definitely not hurt to brush up on that as it's change a lot if it's been a lot of years since you dabbled in it. The HTML Editor by CoffeeCup is definitely a top notch editor and can be a very helpful thing even if you use the Visual Site Designer to make your pages. Some things in VSD are not possible to do and need to be done with a text or HTML editor and then added via the HTML Tool in the VSD program.

HTML Editor also has the nice little CSS menu creator which comes in very handy too. Lots of new features about to be released when the new update comes out also for the HTML Editor.

VSD is a very powerful program in itself and should do you for most all your needs. We'd need to know what else you might have planned for your sites to know if anything else might come in handy for you or not such as galleries, contact forms, and so on. Most anything you can do for a website can be done with the tools here at CoffeeCup.

NOTE Be sure to use the trial versions and take them for a spin before you buy. Most of them have a 30 day trial (or used to but I've not used a trial in years so that may have changed lol) so that way you can see exactly what it's about and if it will be within your grasp to use etc.

Good luck and definitely let us know if you have more questions. The answer to your questions is all

YES! lol :P

I would start with VSD (get the free trial and give it a go).
You could also get a basic SDrive account which would give you space for 3 different websites plus a lot of other nice features:
http://www.coffeecup.com/sdrive/

VSD will upload directly to your SDrive account with just a user name and password – no FTP program needed. Other CoffeeCup programs have the same ability (Form Builder for one, very useful).

It's very easy to add FB/Twitter links to a site and if you use Stream (on SDrive) it can update your FB/Twitter accounts whenever you post to it (use it for blogging, displaying photos, news...).

Within VSD, click the add page button to expand your site. Quick and easy :D

Welcome to the forums, Beth! :)

Thank you both for your input! I forgot that my aunt would eventually want to add a blog (I have no idea what that is and I'm pretty good with tech :P)

I'll check into the HTML editor trial today and see what I can do with it. Still have my HTML book if I get stuck.

One more question...if I want to use a theme can I edit it?

Thanks again & I'm sure I'll be back!

Hi guys!

I ended up purchasing a domain name for my aunt's website under my free coffee cup account that I signed up with. Now I notice that when I sign in my name is under her name but listed with my email address. Personally, I don't mind as I will be maintaining her website. However, I was just wondering if I should change this?

Also, I noticed in the welcome email I received it said that my aunt has her domain pointing to her S-Drive account. Since she decided to purchase a domain for $14.95/yr, does this mean she doesn't need to purchase an additional S-Drive Plan?

Thank you,

Beth

There is one free S-drive plan per registered user. If you bought programmes in your own name, you are the user, and the S-drive plan belongs to you. If you need more software, maybe you can let your aunt buy it in her own name, then you'll have one free S-drive plan each. If the names of who owns who has got entangled, then contact support to help you straighten it.

They're two separate programs. Importing from one to the other isn't possible. You can how ever make both sites built with each look very similar. Especially if you start with a theme. If you need more functionality go with SCDP and SCCP.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

This is a site I built for my work.(RSD)

This is a site I built for use in my job.(HTML Editor)

This is my personal site used for testing and as an easy way to share photos.(RLM imported to RSD)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
