Am trying to upload script to FTP...

Ok I have a business directory script, I have some instructions, but I am not sure what they mean or what to do.

I have a slight idea but nothing is working for me.

Here is what they say to do,

(Change Permissions
folder bd_basic/ - 777
File /install.php - 777

Install location:
bd_basic/install.php
After install delete install.php and set folder to 755

Permission for administration folder:
/admin/ - 767)

I did that, clicked on the install button in the folder, nothing happened. I tried uploading to my FTP server, I got a *Critical file transfer error*.

I am not sure how to go about with the install.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong, Can someone please give me a better step by step instructions on how to do this.

Thank you.

You have to run the install.php from your browser address line box.

http://www.your domain/bd_basic/install.php

Makes sure you have created the folders on your server as directed, upload all the files and set folder chmod permissions.

After the script has been installed, change the folder permissions and remove any files as detailed.

Not knowing the script you want to use, but my guess is the following:

Upload the script package to your server into the bd_basic folder (you may have to create that folder first unless it's part of the package).
Change the said permissions.
Navigate to http://www.yourserver.com/bd_basic/install.php with your browser
Perform the install by following the steps on the screen.
Change back the permissions on bd_basic and delete install.php

I hope this helps. It is the standard way of installing php stuff anyway.

I do thank you for the help, I just want to make sure I have what you are saying down pat.

Let me make sure I have this right,

I open up FTP, upload the folder db-basic and the contents in it, to the website I want it on.

Then I change the permissions it tells me change to change. Making sure I do below.

**Makes sure you have created the folders on your server as directed, upload all the files and set folder chmod permissions.**

The go to (http://www.your domain/bd_basic/install.php) and install it. Once that is done, delete what it tells me to do.

Then after I do that (or before I am not sure) it says to **Include this once on your index.php page in your directory root folder**

So am I to copy this code that it has given me, paste it in dreamweaver, save it as index.php, deleting the one that is already in there, or do I have to do something else?

What is that code you are supposed to include in your index.php?

This index.php, does it come with the scripts, do you have it there from before, or is it your index.html that just has to be renamed?

eokorley - are you using? The HTML Editor, Visual Site Designer.....? If you go to the forum for whichever software program you're using it will be easier to get some help and advice :)

Hiya eokorley and welcome to the forums.

If you can be mroe specific on what you need assistance with I'm sure someone will be able to give you some ideas of what you may need for software or guidance. You should be able to read the other forums even though you won't be able to post in them, but you can post here once you have more information on your needs :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
