Access violation - Post ID 204510
First of all thanks for your excellent Cup of Coffee which I've been using for many years to make my websites. It's a pleasure to use!
I recently installed Windows 8 on my laptop (with Internet Explorer 10). I installed CoffeeCup with no problems. However, I noticed one issue. If I go to Tools / Preferences and, under Application Startup, choose "Initial Tab: My Computer" instead of the default "Initial Tab: My Websites", the next time I start CoffeeCup I get an error message "Access violation at address ... in module 'coffee.exe'. Read of address 00000030". The message disappears when I click "OK" but re-appears when I try to access an html or php file, or when I try to change any of the settings. The only way out seems to be to uninstall CoffeeCup and re-install, with "Initial Tab: My Websites" as the default Application Startup setting.
I assume this has something to do with the security settings in Windows 8 - perhaps coffee.exe doesn't have permission to access certain folders under My Computer?
I tried several things without success, each time uninstalling and re-installing between attempts.
- I uninstalled CoffeeCup and re-installed as administrator.
- I tried running CoffeeCup as administrator.
- I tried installing CoffeeCup in C:\Program Files instead as in the Roaming folder.
I'm now happily using CoffeeCup with "Initial Tab: My Websites" - but I thought you'd like to know anyway.
Thanks and best regards,
Niels

Hi Nicolaas,
I would open a support topic so the CC gurus can help you out.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for you fast reply - but I thought I had opened a support topic? I created a CoffeeCup account, went to My Support Room, clicked the button marked "Open a New Support Topic" and typed in the message above...
Could you please let me know how else to get in touch with the CC gurus?
Thanks!
Niels

I bet it's because your logged in as a guest. If you own one of CC's apps then you should login with the email you used to buy it.

Hi Eric,
I think the problem is with the "buying"... I'm using the CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor so I never bought anything. I opened an account today specifically to let the CoffeeCup team know about the "Access violation" issue I experienced.
I think with these messages I have done my "user's duty". I'll work around the problem by simply not changing the "Initial Tab" setting - but the programme would be even better if that setting were available to Windows 8 users too!
I'm happy to leave it at this.
Thanks for your help and best regards,
Niels

I'm having the same problem as nicolaas. This is the second time I have tried to d/l the free html editor to my laptop. Mine operates on Win7. Cannot do anything with the editor. Everything I click on gives me that access violation message. I have several CC programs on my desktop and don't recall having anything like this happen. Thanks.
Only thing I can suggest is opening a support topic with coffeecup. They may have a solution. You are a registered user, so go to your name off the top menu and select 'Your Support Room'. Then open a support topic. Please post back and let us know if they have a solution for you.
