So let me get this straight...

I purchased the "new" Website Insight program 90 days ago and it's now miraculously been upgraded to a new version number and I have to PAY for the upgrade? Hell... I haven't even used it yet --- I bought it since I already own every other Windows based CoffeeCup product (many of which I've also never used).

Not sure I understand the question Tracy. You purchased the software 90 + days ago for only $29 (retail $79) and now that we have a major update, you have to pay only $19 to get it. Where is the problem in that? Also, if your order was within 30 days, the update is free. I think that is an amazing deal! :)

If you don’t feel new functionality is worth the upgrade you can always stay with your current version.

Also, do not forget that you also received version 1.1 for free in that time frame and quite a bit was added to it.

I was thinking the same thing and I have only used it once as well as purchased it in August. I too am a supporter of CoffeeCup Software, but I feel wronged by this. I hope it is just a slip by them. I was under the impression, that there software was offered with a lifetime upgrade policy. I saw nothing on there pages to indicate otherwise.

I have purchased almost all of their software and have not used a lot of it, I was simply supporting their efforts. I don't believe it is a matter of money as suggested, because as I said I have spent a lot of money with the CoffeeCup software. It is only the principle that when purchased, there was nothing stating this would not be supported with the CoffeeCup policy.

Let's see if the team makes this right.

How can you be upset at us for only using it now Lonnie? You have had it since August. ;)

You also only paid $29 for the software (retail $79) and now that we have a major update, you have to pay only $19 to get it. That is a bargain! We have actually not pushed life-time upgrades for quite a few years now and you will not find it anywhere on our website.

In over 15 years of making amazing Web Design and other software products, CoffeeCup has in general, delivered improved versions of the software free of charge. We will continue to do so, especially when a new version mainly consists of minor improvements and fixes. However, from time to time there will be new versions that require rewrites of the application or parts of the application. This process requires significant research, design, development and testing time. In those situations and on a case by case basis, CoffeeCup reserves the right to require a fee for upgrading to the new and improved version of the software. Given the resources it would take, we would hate to withhold implementing these improvements purely based on financial decisions; charging a nominal fee for updates is the only way to accomplish this.

If you don’t feel new functionality is worth the upgrade you can always stay with your current version.

I think we did make it right here with this release. Instead of charging full price, we are only charing $19. That shows we have a strong commitment to our customers.

One of the biggest requests we had was the ability to batch scan multiple pages, so we added that in version 2.0. Not a bad deal for a tiny $19. ;)

I guess the best we're going to do here is agree to disagree. I surely paid the nominal charge when Lockbox was upgraded and have pretty much purchased every Windows based program, as stated. I am far from a power user and doubt that I will get around to learning how to use the majority of the purchased software... and that's my choice.

Whether I paid one dollar or a hundred dollars for version 1.0 of a program is irrelevant, in my eyes. 1) I was under the impression that CoffeeCup was continuing lifetime upgrades, which you've just stated it is no longer doing; and 2) even if not, I would have thought that the upgrades and suggestions for the 2.x upgrades that were incorporated (and even v. 1.1) would be included given the short time span between releases.

I have purchased, as stated, the entire Windows based CoffeeCup product portfolio, usually when offered discounted assuming that it would be upgraded for life anyway. Wrong answer. While twenty bucks surely isn't going to make nor break me either way, at the end of the day I guess we can both just agree to disagree on this one.

Anyone who purchased version 1.0 did receive version 1.1 for free. We never charged for that when we could have. Not sure what your definition of a "short time" is Terry. To us that is less then 30 days. Anything higher in Internet terms is ancient history. ;)

I normally hate posting in forums but I love to read them (I guess I am a voyeur). hahaha.

For what it is worth, I think $19 was a great deal. Sure, who does not love things for free but CoffeeCup has always done well by me with their programs so I see no problem at all having to pay again. I do not know of any company that provides life-time updates out there. It just is not a financial sustainable business model for anyone. It is not like they charge Adobe prices anyways. Try asking Adobe for a free update to Dreamweaver and watch that email go right in the delete bin. ;)

I am sure we all want CoffeeCup to succeed because the better they do, the more cool things they can make for us.

Ok, now that I have said that, please add more reporting tools though. ;)

I have to say I am a little disappointed here as well. I am a huge supporter of CoffeeCup and preach to everyone about your tools. I have been a user, then customer, for probably 15 years.

I understand your newish policy of charging for complete updates, but, putting out a new version so soon after the initial version and then charging for it seems *very* out of character for your company. This is more Adobe than CoffeeCup.

I was excited to see the changes, but then saw the "ONLY $19" and really couldn't believe it. I jumped to my upgrade page hoping that was meant for new buyers.

@Scott, your responses are concerning me as well. You seem incredulous to the fact people would be a irritated that this is happening and just fall in lock step. The truth is, although this has always been a very comfortable forum and company to interact with, I am, and these are, your customers. Every one of us is saying we love your products and have consistently said we love what CoffeeCup does as a company. However, this is a complete 180 from everything you guys have been.

This isn't about charging $19 for a great update. It is about charging $19 for what you are calling a completely new version (hence 2.0 vs 1.2) about 90 days from the original version (1.0). It is also about telling us that we would have to pay $79 if we don't jump on the "UPDATE." At that point, it isn't a nominal fee for an upgrade, it is a sale for a new product.
