Wordpress templates for web site...

Has anyone tinkered around with using Wordpress for web site design? I used to think of Wordpress as being just for blogs, but you can create stunning web sites with it. There are so many plugins and templates for Wordpress now a days there is literally nothing you can't do!

Additionally, Wordpress sites look the SAME in ALL browsers AND EVEN ON MOBILE PHONES! No additional coding necessary! The code is so compatible, the days of having to continually and repeatedly test your web site in multiple browsers on multiple computers with multiple screen resolutions are OVER! But the templates have to be manually coded with HTML and CSS, so you really have to know what you are doing.

My company has created two sites using Wordpress so far, here is what they look like:

Smashing magazine has some pretty nice templates for Wordpress. I was just on there last night looking at some.

Yes, you can use WP as a publishing platform without the blog. Or you can use the blog portion as a news area without replies. The trick is to learn how to use the system and find some good templates. The only thing about the open source community is the copyright advertising. Specifically, the right to remove author links. Most folks just don't want them on their site.

Hmm, even if you pay for the templates you can't remove the author links? I buy templates from ThemeForest.com and pay around $35 - $40 each... so why should I have to credit the author if I paid for it?

The few that i previewed last night did allow you to remove the author information, you just couldnt claim it was yours or resell the design.

To use as a website in your dashboard you can uncheck replies. That way you can just add information and no one will be able to reply.

You can remove advertising links from purchased themes. I'm referring to free themes. I have done some research on the public licenses out there. People are on both sides of the fence concerning the legality of removing the links (how they are generated). I'm not certain lawyers will be able to fully interpret the licenses. :P

You can uncheck replies in the dashboard. But you need to tweak the php code to get rid of the "comments closed" on pages and posts.

Ya wordpress is pretty nice for lots of different site designs. I have been working on my son's music site, not quite finished and pretty simple compared to the ones listed above, but fun stuff :)

also keep in mind that wordpress has their own themes as well. And on those you can get rid of the designer, but I do not think you can get rid of the theme name. I saw some really kick butt themes on this website for only 19.00 membership fee for a year. I will have to track down that website.

Yes! That is exactly it. How did you find that so quick?
