I'm putting a FB like box and a Twitter feed widget on the index page (footer) of a site. This is a pretty small site; just 4 pages. Would it be weird to have just links to FB/Twit on the other pages, or should they all have the full widgets? Do these gizmos slow the page down?

They do slow the page down, and it depends on which widgets you are using. It is also adding to your HTTP requests because you are linking to images and other files off site (in some widgets).

But if it is just a Facebook like button from Facebook, then you should be fine. Can we have a link?

It's not live yet, but I'll put it up on a CC temp space later when I have some time to work on it. Got to go work in a few minutes :(.
I'll put a link up later :)

Finally got back to the widget issue. :P
Does anyone know how to set up Twitter feeds without using the Twitter widget? I see it done like this quite often in website footers; just a title followed by 3 or 4 of the latest tweets (more like a news feed).
It seems to be a common feature on WP sites, probably a plug-in.
I'd like to be able to just display 1 or 2 tweets in an <ul> on a non-WP site.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks, Eric :)
That looks interesting. Wonder how I missed that in my Google hunt.

Do you think it matters if the JS goes in the head or the foot of the site?

The <div class="tweet"></div> would go in the footer.

This is for a responsive grid template. Most of the JS stuff goes at the bottom of the page before the </body> tag. I've come across some stuff that recommends the JS go right after the opening <body> tag (like some of the Facebook Like code that I can't get to work, went with the Iframe option instead).
So this is what's in the footer now:

I want to move the Twit feed to a spot in the home page main content area where it will function as an announcement for what's going on.
So, what I was wondering about originally... Would it be OK (for design & usage) to have the FB box in the home footer, and for the other pages there would be just links for both FB & Twit? I don't want too many widgets slowing things down for small screen/mobile users. :o

I tried the Twitter feed program, but I think it's beyond me :(

But the Twitter site now has what I want (as of Sept 5). Seems the widget I have now is deprecated, so I'll switch it when I can upload the site (doesn't show on my local preview, guess 'cause it has a different name from the actual URL).

If only Facebook would get with it and offer more options :D

<off topic> How anyone want to go near anything by the name of 'Twitter' is beyond me. :D I wouldn't like to be seen with all the twits there. :o </off topic>
