I am intending to use the Autumn web template. I looked at it on IE8 and the header and footer displays differently than on Firefox or later versions of IE. For example, the header that says Autumn Web has a tan color background in Firefox, but on IE8, that color is missing and it is displaying the header background green color. On the Links bar (again, top), the lighter green (in Firefox) is not displaying, it is the same dark green as the header. As a result, the link for "Home", when active, cannot be read, because it happens to be the same color as the header background!

So, I said all of that to ask this: how do I fix this?

Hi Michelle, First of all IE8 is a dead browser so it will not work with the new css templates. Microsoft stopped supporting this browser and Windows XP this April. I would not worry about this because most new computers will have no issues and will be loaded with IE11 or better.

I'm sure anyone still using IE8 is used to seeing wonky webpages.

There is a reason those browsers are discontinued and no longer supported Michelle. It is because they do not support the many of the things needed to build a modern website. If you have an old computer, don't use IE8, just install Chrome or Firefox and you will have no problems.

IE also has so many security holes that just using it is inviting problems.

Yes, there are ways to correct for IE8. But it would take a LOT of coding. It is not something that can be done overnight.

IE8 is dead and a security hazard. I would highly recommend not coding for it.

Lots of companies are still running IE8 as they don't want to pony up to upgrade their intranet.

For those situations, they can still install Chrome, Firefox, Safari and even Opera. All of them still have XP support.

I do hear what you are saying, however, in my case, the infrastructure won't allow for the browsers above IE8 for certain employee portals. It's crazy, but it is what it is. I'll see if I can modify the color of the header/footer background to be lighter, so if it does not show the overlay of color, it won't be as dark on the older browser. Same will go for the color of the link text.
