I downloaded the trial version last week and spent the weekend using it on a project. I like it a lot and will purchase it.
In the past I've used Paint Shop Pro 7; it was good. I've also used Photo Shop 7. It too was good, but it was overkill for my needs.

For those of you who have used both, how does Gimp2 compare with Elements 8 when it comes to photo editing?
- capability-wise?
- ease of use?
- learning curve?
- Keeping in mind that the learning curve can sometimes end up being much more expensive than the purchase price of the software...

I have both and find the learning curve for gimp much more difficult than for elements.

I've heard good things about GIMP and thought about going that route, but I loath learning a new interface. Which is why I decided on Elements.

A lot of people use Gimp and swear by it. I found the interface extremely difficult. Elements seems much more intuitive to me.

Thank you, Eric and Dan!
It seems that I'm not the only one finding Gimp a bit 'heavy'...
@dave beall
Any tricks - or tutorials - that you could provide, or point me to, for more of a running start on Gimp?
