I've been trying to create a logo in Photoshop and I can't get it to save with a transparent background. When I start the new project I mark transparent and while I'm editing it shows up as transparent but when I save it as a JPEG, it ends up with a white background.

HELP!

You have to save it as .png. The .jpg format is not for transparent backgrounds.

I tried that too, it ends up with a black background then.

Hi Kristi,

Try to save it as a GIF image. GIF images can have transparency too (like PNG). AND they can be animated... The only drawback is the number of colors: only 256. But for a logo this is a non-issue. If you use only a few colors in your logo, a GIF image can be very small (size) too

In photoshop 7 I have my graphic and use the save for web option rather that the save as option

Then ensure PNG-24 and transparent is checked

Photoshop 8 might be a little different, but hopefully, not much.

Thanks, got it figured out!! It worked with the png file, just didn't look like it until it was actually uploaded to the website!

Kristi,

How you liking the photoshop8 elements?

I had photoshop 7 for many years. I wanted to purchase the premiere for some video and it came with the photoshop 8 elements, so I thought what the hey. It is so much like my photoshop 7, I decided not to buy the cs3. My Dad has it and there i not that much I can't do that he can. Saved me a bundle.

Glad you got it to work.

Kim

PS - I visited your website and you guys do great metal work. Loved the railing on the last photo.

Kim, I'm really liking it! I actually had been using PSE3 before that so it was a big upgrade for me! Lots of new features and much more user friendly.

Thanks for checking out the site!

I really like Elements, though have never given up on my old Jasc Paint Shop Pro. Between them I manage to do all that I need and sometimes pass files from one to another to get the best of both worlds.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
