My school system (160 schools, 160,000 students, 18th largest in the country) refuses to install, or allow to be installed, anything beyond IE6. We are scheduled to upgrade to Office 2007 later this year (still using 2003), so maybe then we'll get to IE7.

Most Mac users use either Safari or Firefox. However, since I have a Mac at home and a PC laptop for working, I can tell you, somethings look different on Safari for PC and Safari for Mac. Can't remember what right now, but I did have a minor difference on a page I was working on. Personally, I used to use iCab on my Macs. I used to love it and am considering switching back. It behaved and read pages a lot like Safari, so I did not need to change web design just for iCab.

Thanks for the link to browsershots.org Bill, that will be quite helpful as I get better at this stuff :)

Phil,

The nice thing about the CoffeeCup software is that VSD validates, and with a little care, you can validate a page made with CC HTML Editor.

Most of the time a validated page will display properly in the majority of browsers. I have had to adjust the width of columns to keep IE6 from messing up a three column page by pushing the third column to the bottom. That was not difficult, but I did need a copy of IE6 for testing.

Jo Ann,

Just keep at it and eventually it will start to make sense. (or not) :D

haha Bill, you are getting to know me way too well already LOL :P It did already make sense though, I was pretty impressed with that site actually,it seems to render the pages like they really are in those browsers so it should be a very helpful tool indeed :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
