Just adding my bit..

Titles are also very important they should reflect the topic of the page. A no do is giving all pages the same title e.g. company name. Also using keywords in the titel is good.

Interlinking the pages in the text is also good but do not over doe it.

Having a menu at the bottom of a long page is also good practice.

Site map is a must.

Google and yahoo verifications also good.

For yahoo you will need a urllist.txt page.

Also do not forget your robots.txt page.

:)

The urliist.txt file is the Yahoo version of the Google XML sitemap and the robots.txt file tells the search bots what files and directories they may or may not index.

Hmm see I learned something new already and just got home lol. I didn't know about this urllist.txt file either, is there a program that generates this or is this something we do manually ourselves?

The urllist.txt is used first by yahoo, but then sitemaps. Its really not a big deal since yahoo uses them both.

Jo, its just a txt file with your links, nothing special, and certainly not worth your time.

So the robot.txt thing is something I make on my own?

It's just a text file with a single url on each line that you upload to your server.

You can Google "robot.txt" and get samples of what it looks like.

Hey Kristi, disregard this statement. I don't know why I was thinking you were asking about a urllist.txt file. Just like a man to hear and not listen. ;)

Also Google Webmaster Tools has a robot.txt generator you can use.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
