My current site uses frames. I have a banner (top frame) & the main menu (next frame below) with all links conected to the content page below. The content frame which is scrollable. The top two frames are visable in the browser windows all the time and do not scroll. Good or bad I don't know! Most of the time my content frame makes more links available and these open up in pop up windows. It is rare to have any links inside a pop up but there are some, but these either open up a further pop-up or open inside the same window. I have downloaded the CC VSD program and see that I cannot use the frames anymore. But I always thought that if I load new pages for every link then reloading the banner and menu system buttons on each page would slow the site loading time because it would have to reload all the graphics again. Is this true? That is one of the reasons I used frames in the first place, to try and save on reload times. and I also liked the idea that the banner was always visable even when you had to scroll the page. I have seen other sites that use frames but predominently most sites scroll the entire page. I just don't know which is the better option. Any ideas out there.
Another thing I tried to do was open a pop up but could not see an option for this. The only opions were to open a new browser(blank) window or open in the same (self) window. There was parent and some other one. None of them were pop-ups. Can a pop-up be created? in VSD

The modern way of making websites now, which also will load repeating bits, like menus, just once, is to use php and php includes. If you are unfamiliar with this, an easily understandable explanation can be found here:

For this you need the CC HTML Editor, though.

And on another note if I may, frames can be made in Visual Site Designer,
so if you want to use them then use them. validation is another subject if it matters to you.

But if his site was not built with VSD, he would need to completely rebuild it to use VSD. If there are many pages, it might be easier to just bite the bullet and learn HTML.

I couldn't agree with you more. I just thought I would mention that frames can be done in VSD as an option, but should have thrown in that it wouldn't be easy.

It's looking complicated, I won't change to PHP or learn HTML. WYSIWYG is the only means I am interested in. I am just trying to work out how I can utilise VSD to remake my entire site before my trial period is over. Then make a decision whether to buy or not or stick with my current editor. One of my sites has over 70 .htm pages spread through 15 directories and growing. So if it means that I have to duplicate the page over and over then that is what I must do. Currently, because I use frames I don't have to repeat the banner and menu, but I can live without frames if I have to. My assumption was that each new page had to reload the banner & menu again which is what will happen when I use VSD and save as .html. Am I correct? If this was the case then just to load my banner & menu buttons takes 120K. I guess this is an acceptable figure to keep reloading, I don't know. Thanks for the response so far and I'll see how it all pans out.

I don't have many pages - and if your going to build from scratch then the easiest way is to use VSD. the most problem anybody has had with frames is targeting the main content window.

frames will become obsolete in html5 - if you're doing a rebuild anyway - do it without frames

I use frames in VSD constantly for forms like flash form, but that all. I would suggest you never frame content(in most cases). Also, unless the code in your container(like div) is in html to start with, you should make sure all your content, titles, etc., are in the same text box with VSD for that particular article, or Google may have a hard time organizing your content(just what I have seen on my search results).

I was looking at a major business sales site other day, and all most all the content was framed?? Not the best way to go these days as the search results are bad for frames.(with google, site maps help for your framed content, but the search results can look yukie).
