Changing page titles. - Post ID 158705

I understand that search engines look for keywords in page names... so if I want to drive more interest to my website, I should carefully name my pages to reflect commonly searched keywords. Right?

Well the person who developed my website gave the pages names that only she can decipher (I seriously doubt anyone will search for k_1C-repro) so I'm thinking about changing the page titles and doing some work on my page keywords and descriptions.

Will changing the page name cause any problems with the way my website functions?

(Note: I was only involved in the page design and content. I know nothing about implementing or publishing websites and I don't want to mess anything up.)

Hey edwina. If you change the page title it won't have any effect on the content. In the HTML coding before te </head> tag should be some more tags that start with <meta> look for the one that has page title and change for something more appropriate. simple as that (I hope) :)

Edwina, look near the top of your pages for something like this:
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
<meta name="description" content="Write your description here">
<meta name="keywords" content="Write your keywords here, separated by a comma">
<title>Write your page title here</title>
</head>

You may have more meta tags, but these are the ones you can edit to reflect a page title, description and keywords.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Edwina,
This worries me just a little...are you sure that you are talking about the page names/titles, and not the file name? If you are talking about file names...eg. k_1C-repro.html... then this would indeed have a drastic effect on how your site functions if you change them. Your menu is unlikely to work in this situation.

Can you clarify and confirm that the Simon and Inger have in fact understood your question correctly?

was it made with html editor, or Visual Site Designer ?

Cant advise on html editor I dont use it, but if its made with vsd, you can easily change everything with the program (not code) and when re uploaded it will all self correct. ( i have done this often)

only cautionary note, any pages google etc have found will become errors and will not display

A good site map will sort that out afterwards

second the ADD LINK TO SITE for more advice
