Can anyone give me an idea how to set up a voting page for a website. Ex. I put a video on mysite.com/video and want my customers to vote on the video or rate the video somehow. How would I gather and record the votes automatically??
thanks,
John

I would say try to find either a script for a Poll setup, or setup a form for people to click a radio button for their choice and submit it. This form you can setup to send you an email when someone votes and then you can tally it manually and post the results.
Polls tend to be the easiest way to do this. There's a number of sites that have lots of different types of scripts people can use, I can't think of any other than Bravenet off hand, not sure if Bravenet has a poll system or not. Try a google search, there's bound to be hundreds or thousands of sites that have some available or maybe someone else will already have a good idea on this

Another way you might do this is with Form Builder. Create two forms. Both with only a radio button. One button says (for example) video A; on the other form the other button says video B. Go to configure form settings. From there say that you want either an email to generate the results for you or a text file to be placed on your server or both. If you chose the email option (maybe set up a temp email account depending on how many emails you think you might get.) put as your subject heading "a" for one form and "b" for the other.
Now what should happen is anytime a vote is placed an email is generated for that particular vote and sent to you, and the subject should read what the user chose as their vote. This way you don't have to open up a thousand emails, just look at the subject heading and tally them all up.
Just a thought.

That's a thought too Eric, would be easier than just a straight choice form for sure. Only problem with forms is that you can't regulate much with them like you can with polls, such as restricting repeating votes by IP and such. But if you can't find a Poll setup, this would be an easy way to do it.
John, try this script. It's free and requires no database. It's not as easy as CC prograams but it's fairly simple and free.

Awesome Tom, thanks so much, I've been looking for some of these things myself as well as remembering seeing an aweful lot of people looking for guestbook scripts and such too. I'll add this to my library of resources. Thanks

Yea, that was a great rec Tom. I added it to my list as well.
