Any feedback gratefully received

(Forgive me, I first posted this in the "Introduce yourself" forum, but was advised to move it)

Hi Folks!

I first used CoffeeCup software years ago and then, for some strange reason, got out of the habit (working away, not enough time ... all sorts of lame excuses!)

Anyway, I'm trying to get back in the swing again and thought I'd say hello.

I've had a bit of spare time recently (yeah, I mean no work to speak of), so I thought I'd try to get back up to speed with CoffeeCup and also my attempts to produce online training, so I've tried to combine the two to help me improve my efforts with screen capture and narration.

Any feedback gratefully received, including criticism (preferably constructive) on something I've created to introduce Website Access Manager. I know, for example, that some lessons go on too long - I must work on making things briefer.

Have a look, and if you think it might be useful to someone then feel free to pass on the link -

Kind Regards to you all,

Hiya Phil,

One thing I would suggest before you go any farther in your lessons is to remove the spaces from your file names. I'll remove this post either in a couple days or if I see you respond since I don't want it to end up being a conversation thread, but just letting you know that spaces are a no-no in website file names.

Choose either an underscore _ or a dash - between your words rather than a space. Makes it much easier for your visitors to find your uploads than spaces does. Nice job on the video too and a good idea for sure, can always use more video help for users :)

Another thing that is widely accepted is the use of non caps letters. This also makes it easier for your users to find your files and pages as the internet servers can be finicky and many times someone looking for you will not use caps. Most typers use small case letters when typing web addresses and so they will not be able to find "The_Basics.html" if they type "the_basics.html" as most servers treat the change in letter case as totally separate files. Your choice there of course, just passing on the info.

Please let me know if/when you alter the space in your file name and I will alter your link for you, if needed, to whatever you changed it to, and I'll remove this post then too. Have fun :)

Thanks Jo Ann

Definitely valid points, without a doubt, especially considering my background! I must confess that I was probably a bit lazy once I'd managed to check it worked here with IE and Firefox, but that's with Windows 7 and all the other settings that are peculiar to my system.

Good point about it becoming a conversation thread too - there's a danger that the original info. gets lost in the debate.

I know my screen capture software generates names based on the folders I create, so I definitely need to be more careful with my naming conventions!

I'll recreate the stuff and let you know when it's done.

"Have fun"? I certainly will.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Jo Ann,

Done it, I think!

The renewed link is -

I did actually post this originally in the "Introduce yourself" section -

Any chance you could change the links in both posts for me?

Many Thanks!

Phil

I don't know that I would go as far as to say, "spaces are a no-no in website file names." It's no greater a taboo than using ALL CAPS when typing, IMHO.
Let's not get all hurt.

Yeah, I have used caps and spaces. As long as the person is aware, it's not an issue.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Personally, I think my post belongs in the "Web Design Lesson and Ideas" forum, as that's precisely what the post gives a link to - using Website Access Manager.

Anyway, I'll leave it up to you guys.

Hope you're all prepared for the festive season!

Phil:
OK I think it is very very well done and you are right, it belongs in the Website Access forum. I do have website access manager but haven't used it yet. Your lesson made it very clear.

What did you use for developing and presenting your lesson. I need to do something like that for our new clients and I bought Turbo Demo a couple of years ago but it doesn't have anywhere near the polish that your presentation does. That, and I need someone with an English accent to talk. You know what they say, anything is more convincing if it is said with an English accent.

Thanks again for sharing
