A Curiosity of code - Post ID 248302

So I have a client that I just put her site live a couple days ago. Had a curious thing happen with Firefox not clearing the cache for some reason or another, took it 3 tries to clear it apparently and finally it worked lol. Anyways, what I found when I was trying all this was a strange thing that I'm not quite sure how to deal with.

While on my test server the code is pretty and looks easy to read etc., but when I uploaded it all to her server, all the code for the CSS (not sure on the rest as it didn't matter so I didn't check) is minified. Makes it extremely difficult to tell if the 2 files are the same or not. Before I figured out that Firefox wasn't cooperating and cleaning itself as it should, I went through a myriad of different things trying to figure out why my changes weren't in effect and was considering that maybe the file wasn't uploading correctly (even though they had done so up until then..) and when doing the View Source to see the custom.css file that I uploaded it is all minified.

Any ideas on why it would be one way on one server and another on a different server? Makes no sense to me. Went through the cPanel for her server to see if there was anything that might be causing it, but either I'm totally missing it (definitely a possibility) or there's no settings for it there.

You can view the 2 different setups here:

Client's Server (Bluehost.com)

Any insight would be appreciated. :)

Not sure if its just me JoAnn but i don't see any difference between the two. Are you just asking about the css in general and if its minified for us?

I would ask Bluehost.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Yeah, I checked in both Firefox and Chrome and the css code (both main and custom are the ones I checked) are minified only on the client's domain. On my test server they are code aligned so you can read them. If you can verify this to me that would help. Would be strange if I was the only one saw it this way. Can't think of a single thing a computer or browser could do to render code different on different computers lol.

Yeah once I verify I ain't seein' things that's probably what I'll have to do unless someone here has any idea why it would do that.

What did you use to upload the sites?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Using Transmit FTP program for Mac. Haven't had any issues with it so far using it almost a year now. Used same program to upload to both servers.

Jo Ann, I looked at this earlier, and saw the minified CSS (Firefox 37+).
This is making me think of a recent thread where someone's CSS appeared to have be minified, but Brian suggested something else could be going on:

(scroll down to his reply)

I see the plain ol' CSS now for both servers.
Let us know if you find out what was going on.:)

Computer is shut off for the night, but thanks Paintbrush, I will take a look at that tomorrow and see what happens.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
