I've created a calendar for a web site and it displays correctly in FireFox but all I get in IE 8 is a line of text "Form Object". I've put the swfobject module in the same folder as the events page and still see the same text line.

Just what am i missing? I'm close to creating a page that displays a <table> type calendar.

OK, I do this every time. Leave out stuff I should have included.

I can see the calendar at my work station using Windows XP. I use both IE6 and Firefox 3.6.6 there so I thought everything was ok and all I needed to do was remove the table at the bottom of the page. I still shudder thinking about changing all of those event dates! The only annoyance is that darn drop down bar that says IE has stopped some active thingy from running. If I could find a way of removing that blasted thing I'd be happy!

At home I am using an HP laptop running Vista 64 Home Premium, IE8 and Firefox 3.6.6. The page still displays fine in Firefox yet IE displays "Form Object" in the location where the calendar should be.

I've tried to change several Advanced Option settings and even moved the swfobject.js file into the same folder as the events page. Nothing has worked.

Are there settings that I need to change in IE that I may not be aware of? Until yesterday, I was working with IE8 with it's default settings.

On your 64-bit system, are you using IE 64-bit or IE 32-bit? Since there is no Flash player for the 64-bit version of IE, that could be the issue.

Thanks Scott;

Never thought of that. But if that's the case, what about Windows 7? Hasn't Microsoft dropped the 32 bit systems?

All 64-bit systems come with a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. Microsoft never really dropped the ball, Adobe just has never mad a 64-bit version of their Flash player. This is why you don't see 64-bit versions of FireFox, Chrome, Safari and Opera yet.

Having a dedicated 64-bit version only makes sense for applications that needs large amounts of memory (over 4GB). Since the majority of web applications really don't need that amount of memory, a 32-bit version is more than adequate.

My 2cents anyways.. ;)

Well .... IMHO, your two cents are worth more than my two cents. I'll have to check that when I get home. Thing is, I don't use IE at all. First thing I did was install FF and OpenOffice immediatly after opening the lid.

So, this leaves me with the fact of accepting that if it looks good in FF then it will operate successfully in IE 7 and under?

Again, I use Win7 64bit and IE8 32bit browser and I see your flash movie fine. I'd venture to say that most folks use IE8 32bit and not the 64bit version.

Thanks Tom, I'll have to install IE 8 32bit.
