Hiya All,

I'm here asking a question for my brother actually lol. I'm working on his website for his band and he created a video for a demo and burned it to a DVD etc. Plays on even a 60 inch television crystal clear and beautiful as well as awesome sound etc. The issue here is that it isn't crystal clear and beautiful when playing the file itself on a computer. I know absolutely nothing about video and therefore the only thing I can do is put it on the site as the extent of my video ability lol.

If anyone out there has any video knowledge that knows what this is or what he needs to do with the file (convert it maybe to something else? dunno) it would be most appreciated.
The file is in .WMV format right now, plays just fine in the CC player and any others I've tried also. Just looks really crappy. Sounds ok though, just the visual part is bad.

Thanks in advance for any advice here. He's hoping he doesn't have to redo it completely, but if he does, any advice here would still be helpful so he doesn't make the same mistake again. :)

Here's a link to the video page. The site is a temp link till it's done, but it will get you there at least :)

WMV is a pretty horrible video format. You should be encoding to an AVI or MP4 for the best results. This program does a pretty good job http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Ok I'm lost on this unfortunately lol, I seriously know nothing about video stuff other than how to click it to play it etc. This anydvd, this can convert the file from WMV to either AVI or MP4? This looks like it deals mostly with the DVD itself rather than the file, and mostly looks like decryption type things... am I missing the info or just not understanding what to do with it?

This takes a DVD and converts it to another format. Since the DVD was a good quality, it is always best to rip right from the source. The WMV is already in a bad format, converting it to another format wouldn't help any.

If you ever want to convert WMV to another format, you need a completely different type of program.

Ahh ok, I'll give this info to my brother then and see if he can work with it as he has the DVD or CD of it, I just have the file itself. I have no idea what format the DVD itself is in and I guess I assumed it was also WMV but I could be wrong there. Thanks Scott, hopefully he can get it setup to look better :)

A DVD is in a DVD format unless possibly a Video CD, but either way they are about the same thing. ;)

nice and clear, thanks for that James, I did tell him to give it a try, so I guess I'll wait and see what happens :)
