Since they have said they will no longer be updating the original Web Form Builder, then IMHO it is wrong to charge previous purchasers for the new, improved version.

How is this wrong Aaron? This is not the same program. You are really comparing Apples to Oranges here. If you look over the comparison chart at https://www.coffeecup.com/store/special … ck#compare you can see all the differences between the two.

Flash is still great for many things, but since it is not supported on the majority of mobile platforms, we had to come up with a solution to that. We are simply not adding features to the Flash version to make this work. We had to start completely from scratch and develop an HTML version of this program.

So while you may "feel" you are entitled to this for free Aaron, I am sorry but we cannot offer it for free. Just like when SCC Pro was released, we are providing this new program to existing registered users for an extremely discounted rate. That in itself shows that we do take care of our existing customers.

Everyone is welcome to their opinions. I just think that if a company offers free lifetime updates and upgrades then they should honor that selling point. If more people fall for their scheme, such as the guy above who is happy to fork out $150, then CoffeeCup will continue with these bait-and-switch techniques.

Aaron, I think you missed the sarcasm in Eric's post. He's not happy to do that, he's telling you how ridiculous it is for you to complain about getting a brand new program for a steal of a price that is replacing an old program that has been around for many years and needed to be retired soon. He's telling you go pay Microsoft for your bi-yearly updates of $150 or more for their next version and then tell us that $29 once every 5 years to a decade is too much.

Really this complaining is getting so ridiculous. You want software, you want updates, but you don't want to pay for total rewrites and allow the developers to get paid for their time. How stingy are YOU!

Everyone keeps bringing up Microsoft and Adobe... neither of those companies offers lifetime upgrades as a selling point for their products. So you are the ones comparing apples to oranges, not me.

I'm just saying that if CC promotes their software by telling us that the purchase of a program includes lifetime upgrades, then they should honor that.

Upgrading the form builder to HTML5 to meet current standards and to be used on all platforms should be considered one of those upgrades. So it had to be re-written from scratch... so what? It's still an upgrade.

What is the excuse for Shopping Cart Creator's re-branding? That was CLEARLY an upgrade that should have been free for people who bought it previously.

Scott, showing me a chart with the differences between the old form builder and the new one does not mean anything to me, because this new version is replacing the old one. You are not supporting the old version anymore, and that is why I am adamant that the new version is an upgrade. They are clearly linked to each other.

Yeah I'm stingy. I don't like paying twice for something that I should only have to pay for once. If you are going to continue these personal attacks, then I'll start picking on the ugly websites in your signature.

The only similarities between the two programs is they both create a form. That is it. Would it make it easier if we just called the new HTML version CoffeeCup Orange Soda and then charged for that? It is a different name then. ;)

We do appreciate you voicing your opinion on the matter and we understand that not everyone maybe happy with this, but what we have decided it is the best solution for us and our customers.

The Flash version will still receive technical support. There just will be no further development. Nothing more really can be said here about that.

Was Shopping Cart Pro an upgrade or a new brand new program?

It just leaves a negative image when CC says they "consider it a new program". Your words, not mine.

Imagine if you bought a car with lifetime maintenance. Then next year, the car company comes out with a 2012 version. They tell you that they "consider it a new model" and will no longer fix issues with your car. That's what I feel is happening here.

If the new program causes the previous program to stop receiving updates, then the new program is a replacement -- and in my humble opinion, an upgrade.

I completely understand that CC put a lot of time and effort into this new program, and I think it's great. But time and effort alone are not a reason to abandon your selling points of free upgrades. The free upgrades were offered upon purchase and are not being honored.

For the record, this is mostly about the Shopping Cart Designer and Shopping Cart Creator software, and their upgrad -- I mean -- Pro versions.

Web Form Builder is just another example of more of the same bait-and-switch.

I don't think there is any explanation we can give Aaron here to apease you in any way. It is clear you have your opinion and we have ours. Ours just seems to match what the majority of our customers are saying as well.

I think this discussion really has run its course and nothing productive can come from it. Let's just leave it at that.

BTW, the Mega Pack expires in 6 hours. ;)
