Your handmadebyme site comes up 2nd on the list for me in Alabama USA. That's of course not counting the first 3 spots which are basically paid ads

Anyone for an experiment on this issue of search results

I have two versions of my jewellery website Deloreanjewellery in signature, and handmade-by-me with a .com jewelleryhandmade pointed at it (NOTE 2 L's)

Main thing i am after in google is this search criteria 9ct signet rings Though silver signet rings comes next

This is the uk interpretation for my UK market worldwide might type 9 carat signet rings

I know its being found, the regular orders i get prove that, but just to prove a point my main search 9ct signet rings :: today is appearing at no.1 on my google results :: I bet its more like no. 12 for others in UK and probably no. 30 for US Australia etc.

I have bumped this so anyone new sees what we are doing, JoAnn Handmade-By-Me is my two year old site David delorean only went live 6 months ago but both are a surprise.
I was writing a VSD amateur guide to SEO for a new thread because of all the H1 H2 tag code questions and explaining how i do this myself , these results might make it acceptable, what do you think.

Good idea, Viv ;)
I think too many new users are trying to cobble together HTML-CSS-VSD sites :o

I'm all for expanding VSD's functionality... and it does make it easy to include custom additions, but being a WYSIWYG program, the basics are already built into it. The last big upgrade was all about creating the most browser-friendly, efficient code for a WYSIWYG editor.

Users should explore all of VSD's features before trying to tack on stuff that's already there

I'd think a VSD forum sticky explaining SEO specifically for VSD sites would be quite helpful.
Get typing, Viv :D

Good idea, Viv! You may get CC to include it among the support articles. I may even read it and refrain from banging on about those H tags... :P

And CC should send some swag your way as a thank you! :)

I did try your google search, and the first one, the golden rings came as number 1, not even a paid advert in front of it. The silver ring keyword landed you in the middle of page 3.

We'll help making your support article sticky when you have posted it, just give us a shout! :)

Inger in your case the #1 is probably purely because if i remember rightly, 9ct in your country is a no go, i think your standard is either 14ct or 18ct :: silver is sort of where i would expect it to be.
International, and national search as you know yourself is at best difficult (though i just got an order from Catah in India)

My SEO guide is far more intended for local search, builders, plumbers, photographers etc, but it does work identically for international, but with in my case billions of similar websites to get an order today for silver from India is unusual, I do get regular calls from USA, Canada, Germany, mainly English who have emigrated or army etc.

Great idea, and rock on Viv! My website in VSD was #1 under it's keywords for about a year, and then I had removed several post from my blog and I went down to #5 immediately in local search(even with redirects to prevent 404's). I think those keywords places me at #1 or #2 outside of local, but it doesn't matter because who is going to google geotargeted keywords outside of the geographic area anyways. What's truly interesting is that I get **much more business now** than ever before. That VSD website paid for itself(including labor) within 3 weeks after putting it up. I did tweek the css some, to get some stuff on the page I needed like the floating toolbar on the bottom, but VSD really performs extremely well in search. I'm going to be doing an upgrade to the website soon.

The guide is a sticky on vsd thread, put it there Earlier this week

I was just trying to remove some of the cross referencing between WYSIWYG and the coders advice.

As a completely code free website amateur designer i find the SEO side a nice challenge, could happily do it all day but only in conjunction with what is already inbuilt into VSD, would not even attempt trying to improve ranking for a website written any other way.

And unless someone *really is comfortable* with hard coding in VSD, it saves so much time just to load file for sure!
