Chrome - Firefox - Opera - IE7...

I have just installed Chrome. I noticed that my menu is lower in Chrome than it is in Firefox and Opera. Checking IE7, I find that it matches Chrome.

http://www.brighterdaycharities.org/ is the site I used for the comparison and it appears that the overall site is the same height in all four browsers (or close enough. The gap between the logo (or masthead) of the site and content is about the same in all the browsers, but in Firefox and Opera, the menu is closer to the top of the gap, and lower with Chrome and IE7.

I am now wondering what others have found while comparing Chrome with other browsers.

I haven't tried Chrome, but it uses the same engine (Webkit) as Safari which is also available for Windows.

I haven't noticed any major differences in Chrome from FF3, but I haven't had a chance to really analyze my whole site.

The only problem I've had with Chrome is that it keeps crashing on me... probably the program download got interrupted... or my computer keeps killing it... one never knows with these things :D

I <3 Chrome. It seems to work faster for me. I do notice some sites are not graphically appeally like they are in IE7 but other than that, I prefer it over FF for now.

IE is always hacked or easily modified. FF takes forever to initally load and some sites are not pleasing to the eyes through this browswer. Opera never really messed with. And Chrome so far has been good and fast. If you are looking for speed, use Chrome. :)

I did see some problems with playing movies like from youtube. I am "pretending" it is not a problem. :)

I like using Google Chrome as a browser but when I view my website (zweibohmer.com) on it, the formatting is off. Specifically, the images on the "Documents", "Links" and "In Memoriam" pages. If I view the same pages in IE, everything looks correct.

Does anyone have any advice?

I am a novice at this so I am sure that I did something wrong in the HTML. It is just weird that IE is okay but Chrome is goofed up.

You would think all browsers would follow exactly the same atandard. It's very annoying at times. :o

I use IE, Firefox and Chrome. Firefox rocks (because of all the Addons), Chrome rocks because of its simplicity and SPEED, IE is slower than both Firefox and Chrome but most sites are designed keeping IE in mind.

As far as rendering goes, unfortunately, most sites render slightly differently on each browser. The best way to render almost same layout across the board is to specify "style" element on each element (and define font, height and width), but from HTML standards it is not too advisable as the source code gets too complex.

Bill, in your website, if you specify "height value" in "style" for each <td> tag along with "width value" (which you already do), things will be a bit more uniform across all browsers. Each browser follows a slightly different standard for default height and width attributes unless specified by you. .. My 2 cents

Personally, if a website renders perfectly in IE and reasonably OK in other browsers I will be absolutely satisfied. I think HTML 5.0 will have better standards but it is still in the designs.

I've tried chrome, but still a firefox nut and glad most folks finally upgraded from ie6.

I mean for a while it was like a juggling act to test 6,7,8, chrome, ff 2 and 3, and not to forget opera. The most frustrating thing is when you think you have the cross browser thing licked, you add a app or something then stumble across it later in another browser and ugggg.

Browsershots.org use to be the best place on the planet to test cross browsers(sometimes still is), but you can still miss issues due to issues with their pc's(plugins not installed, messages in other languages, etc.).

I still can't get Chrome to work. Tried installing it on two different computers and the dang thing just won't work! I am an idiot? Or is it just that glitchy? I've got a decade of experience in web design, yet In can't install a stupid browser on my computer :( Maybe it just doesn't like my 64-but machine?

I personally use Firefox on my main browser because the add ons rock, and it got better security, is faster, and is simpler to use than IE. I use IE only when I HAVE to, although I do optimize sites for IE, Opera, Firefox, and Safari. (I hafta just trust the whole site's not falling part in Chrome lol!)

Personally I feel that Safari is the COOLEST browser of all of them, but I don;t use it because it's so dog gone SLOW. It's just like iTunes for the PC: SLOW!

If you have Safari, then Chrome isn't too important. They both have the same rendering engine, but I believe I had read that Google uses a different javascript engine. This would explain, in part at least, why Safari passes the Acid3 browser test and Chrome comes really close, but fails.
