I heard of a new internet scam that targets the unemployed.

Here is how it apparently works. Scammers post a tech type job online, someone applies. The scammers say "Gee we've got alot of qualified applicants so we have choosen some of you to do some trial projects. Do good and we will make this permanent. Oh, you'll need some hardware, we'll pay for it" They then wire stolen money from Europe and give them a shopping list. They then say, "We're really sorry but we've choosen someone else. Please ship all that stuff you bought over to us here."
Poor guy gets no job but as a parting gift a knock on the door from the Feds about the wire transfer of stolen funds.

Anyone have any info on this or is it just some sort of urban/internet legend?

How anyone would fall for such a thing is beyond me, I don't care how desperate the job situation is.

I know someone who came close to falling for this kind of scam but got out in time.

In sum, if it sounds too good to be true be aware it is very probable it is a scam. :/

Well a good rule of thumb is that if I didn't contact you, I'm not interested. :)

Below is a mail we got yesterday, and I wonder if anyone here has had something similar. Could this be a new form of scam, somebody trying to lay their hands on our money for those domain name registrations? Or what do you think?
Dear Manager,

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Anhui, China. On January,3rd,2011, We received QUNDI Company's application that they are registering the name "johnsflats" as their Internet Trademark and "johnsflats.cn","johnsflats.com.cn" ,"johnsflats.asia"domain names etc.,It is China and ASIA domain names. But after auditing we found the brand name been used by your company. As the domain name registrar in China, it is our duty to notice you, so I am sending you this Email to check.According to the principle in China, your company is the owner of the trademark,In our auditing time we can keep the domain names safe for you firstly, but our audit period is limited, if you object the third party application these domain names and need to protect the brand in china and Asia by yourself, please let the responsible officer contact us as soon as possible. Thank you!

Kind regards
