I was recently making a post somewhere, when I thought how nice it would be to indicate where I was physically. (In this case, Yakutat, Alaska.) The image that came to mind was of a simplified silhouette map of Alaska with a stylized drawing of a road sign and the word "Yakutat," written on the sign.
Then I thought, "there should be a program to make something like that on the fly, by entering the state name, the location name and maybe the latitude and longitude to place the sign."
From there the idea evolved. "why couldn't a program like that make other ideograms, and simple iconic images as well?" There is good software for making unique images, but not very much for making quick classy, simple assemblages out of "off the shelf" elements.
The idea here, is largely to be able to produce not artistic masterpieces, but quick ideograms, for things like e-mails and bulletin board posts, as well as websites.
So some ideas for said software are:
-
assemble iconic instruction graphics from entered text and selected images (ex.: caution, warning, perishable, tip)
create road sign type graphics from selected elements and text
create award graphics and virtual trophies from selected elements and text
create very simple pie and and bar graph charts
create classy images for virtual index card type personnel and member listings
make button and site navigation graphics from a selection of ready made elements
all manner of simple state, country and global maps with overlaid labels, and perhaps more local maps as well
user photos overlaid on simple 3-D images, like a box, can, ball or cup
Am I delusional?
