Hi people,

I thought I would post my inquiry here regarding sitemap since it is the most recent of the threads. Haven't been on the forum in awhile but my site is up and running and has been edited numerous times. I just love cc and vsd.

I now want to create a sitemap. I have read the pdf numerous times, articles in google, articles on this forum and I just want to make sure I am doing this properly. This is my first time creating a sitemap

I have a very simple e-commerce site that sells 3 versions of one product. The entire site is 19 pages but 11 of those pages are enlargements of thumbnails. The other pages are index, purchase, about, photo gallery, contact & terms page, contact form, order form and a disclaimer page for the photo gallery.

My questions...

1. Having such a small site I think that I would only need a XML site map, the navigation on the site is pretty straight forward and clear where a visitor to the site can easily get around without needing an HTML map. Does that seems like the right choice?

2. I do not think the enlarged thumbnail pages need to be included in the sitemap so I want to use the ignore option and leave them out. Is leaving them out sound like the right choice?

3. The steps seem pretty straight forward and simple that I feel like I am leaving something out.
They would be as follows...
a. scan the site
b. edit the files in the site
c. create the sitemap
d. upload to server
e. submit site to each individual search engine
Does this sound like all the right steps?

4. After doing this where do I go to view and see what has been indexed and just what the map is doing?

5. Are the Google Webmaster tools regarding mapping and SEO seperate from the cc sitemapper or do they happen automatically when I submit the site to google?

The URL for this site is http://www.j12increaser.com. Please note that this is a male product, not pornography
but there are images depicting the product. They are very cropped and not offensive so it is the product that is represented. Just a warning before venturing to the site. The J12 itself is a great quality product just the same.

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi People

Thought I would give this one more shot here on this thread. I posted earlier in regards to sitemap and making sure I was understanding everything correctly at about 5 pm but I did not get any response. If anyone happens to read this and has knowledge of sitemap please read my previous post. I've never created a sitemap before and just want to make sure I am doing things correctly before proceeding.

TIA

I would agree that those seem like proper steps to be taken.

Map everything on your site except the top secret stuff.;) Google swallows up content so the more you have that's all tied together the more Google will drool. For now if it's over whelming make the xml file for Google then come back and make the navigation site map for your actual site when you think it's needed or when you feel like doing it for kicks. Guess what, it becomes more content for your site. Yahoo!:) Or should I say Google!
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Eric a quick question. If I choose 'both" in setting this up instead of just "xml" so there is more content on this site when I upload to my server does sitemap automatically distinguish the xml files for the search engines or is there another step I need to perform?

Also if you have any thoughts as to the" top secret stuff", which I assume means the photo gallery on the j12increaser.com site, is it better to leave that off?

TIA

The xml file is to be submitted to the search engines. They all have their own submission areas. I have only done Google and that's in the webmaster tools area after you setup a free account. As far as Top Secret stuff, this is anything you don't want mapped. You may not have anything on your site that you don't wanted index by the search engines. I think must user don't.:)

Eric Hi.
As always I take my time and try different options to make sure I do it right. In the end decided just to go with the xml files for now. So I created the map did a few edits and clicked upload. It asked me for my server which was in the drop down and then it wanted the location of the files of the index. It gave me the option to browse for it but there was nothing in the browse box for me to choose from.

So my questions

1. How do I know the correct file to put in their? I believe it asked for the index.html
2. How do I know the path of that file?
3. Or where do I find that file?

When I am asked for files and paths I get confused. Any help would be appreciated. It is never simple till you know how to do it.

I also see they put a parental control on the thread with the J12Increaser link on it. Thanks to whomever for doing that I do not want to upset or cause any flack. If I can or am suppose to do this on my own when I post this link how do I do that?

Again TIA :)

If nothing shows up you might not have your server settings setup correctly. Double check those.:)
