I've begun creating RSD pages and I've done something wrong at the very start. It's something to do with how pages are created, but I can't find any directions on how to do the easy stuff.

I built an Index page, and three other pages: Start Here (a tier 2), and Required writing (tier 3 page on the Start Here thread), and a template for tier 3 pages).

On the Pages tab on the main RSD menu when I have the Index page open, I see only the Index page listed in the Pages menu. (That seems counter-intuitive to me, but maybe it's OK.) The slug at the top of that page reads Index.rsd - Index

When I have the Start Here page open, I see the Index, template, and Start Here, listed in the Pages menu. (Required Writing does not appear.) The slug at the top of the page reads Start Here.rsd - Start Here.

When I have the Required writing page open, I see Index, template, Start Here, and Start Here_1 listed in the Pages. (The template does not appear AND I don't have any Start Here_1 page.) The slug at the top of that page reads required writing.rsd - required writing

When I have the template page open, I see Index, template, Start Here, and Start Here_1 listed in the Pages. (The Required writing page does not appear AND I don't have any Start Here_1 page.)
The slug reads template.rsd - Start Here_1

I think need directions from Suzanne Norvell about how to use the RSD interface. Her step by step directions on styling a vsd theme into a responsive design are a model of clarity.

What you are doing there is creating a new project for each page. That is a HUGE NO NO! Not sure why you would do it that way, Linda. We talked about this in your previous support tickets.

Think of it like your Excel document. You don't create a new spreadsheet when you need new pages. You just add a new sheet to the existing Excel document. Pretty much all web design apps work in an identical manner, even Dreamweaver which you said you also use. You have a project file, and within your project file, you add your content. You never make individual project files.

You only have one project file (ends in .RSD), and in the project file, you add your pages. So when you want to add a new page, click Pages and then Add Blank Page.

There is no way to undo what you did here. You will need to start back over with your project file and re-add your pages and build them all again. I would suggest you delete all those files so there is no confusion and just pick the one that has the most content inside of it and start from there.

This was my third try at trying to interpret the directions on how to start a website using RSD. This third time, I started from a blank page and created a new Index page. I duplicated it to make my first tier 2 page (Start Here). After I built that, I duplicated it to create a template.

If that is entirely wrong, it must mean that I should not have duplicated my Index page but should have built an entirely new page to use as a template. Is that what I have to do?

In Dreamweaver, to create a new page, I opened Dreamweaver, not the index page for the site I was working on. And I could modify the pages (rename them, for example) without having any site pages open. I could also copy a page without opening the file.

I know I'm driving you nuts. I'm sorry. I make my living translating technical subjects like steam turbine installation into instructional materials for the guys with wrenches who actually install the steam turbines. By the time I get a website, I may also have a manuscript on RSD for Dummies.

That is not your problem though Linda. You keep going to the File Menu > Save and saving as a new project file name each time. You only need 1 project file and within that project file you add (or duplicate) your pages.

Linda, you open RSD and create a page, probably the index page first. Then save, giving the project a name at the same time, like 'My-website' or something like that.
Then, for the next page, click Pages up in the menu bar, and
a) if you are going to reuse some page elements for the other pages, select duplicate current page, or
b) if you however need a blank page, then select that.
In the case a) you will find a page named index_1,
in case of b) the new page is called Blank
Whichever page name you find, rename it to the name you want.
Save again, but just SAVE, don't Save as! Don't change the original name you gave your project.

This is the same as Scott told you. I have just used some more words.

Hi Scott,

The link you posted for managing pages no longer works. I'm also trying to find out more information about managing pages. I plan to build a personal site that will have a lot of pages, and I want to organize them into folders by year, month, and day. Is there a way to do that in RSD?

As far as being able to do what you want to do with organising folders the way you are wanting as Eric said in your other post, this is not possible within RSD at the moment.
