One has to make a custom CSS file. At the. moment I believe only WebKit supports this text gradient.

Hi Bil
Not sure how big your txt will be but if it's for a heading say what about making the text as a PNG picture and then applying a gradient to the picture as a work around

Easier to just add custom CSS which one can add to any text be it text paragraph h1 H2 h3 blockquote etc it's only 3 or 4 lines of code to get a nice gradient effect

Adrian, I don't think images as replacement for text is a good thing.
Years ago, when we were all coding, it seemed to be a popular way of making headings stand out by posting them as
images, using <h> tags around them. It was quickly frowned upon by Google, and the last thing I heard was, that Google now penalizes sites using that technique.

If the background to the text is white (in the example attached I've made it grey just to show what's happening) it can easily be done with blend modes.

I'm wondering when Microsoft will get around to supporting blend modes in Edge and IE11.

Franks Way works very well as long as the background is white
The small custom CSS doesn't need the text whatever to have a background colour, it is transparent so it adopts the back[ground colour of whatever it is sitting in

Since I can't see your code, have you checked if it works in MS browsers?

it works with the new Microsoft Edge, don't have the old Edge so don't know, doesn't work on IE11 but then neither does the blend mode way either.

UPDATE
Yes it works on the old Microsoft Edge, so only IE11, surprise surprise
