Do you mean "Ho w Many Hits" a website has had??? to display on your website? social media pages etc etc??

So what is best practice - analytics?

Maybe Best practice was the wrong phrase, but it's something modern day webmasters tend to steer clear of depending on why a website may display such a thing, to give your client the analytics on your monthly report for seo statistics/performance has a more positive purpose, or if they have someone in sales or marketing that is savvy to website statistics and can coordinate with you to help improve things (if necessary
Is a better option nowadays, but having said all of that, as Inger says there are a lot of sites around where you can get the code required to put on on your clients pages.

The other thing to consider is of course if you do use one of those counter thingies, then they will most likely be classed as cookies (and not even essential cookies)which of course then leads to a cookie declaration in your clients website terms and conditions, it has been documented that in some cases when visitors see a counter they will leave because those cookies are tracking cookies and can easily be used to follow a visitors browsing habit
