Does CC have any plans to provide an RSD file repair tool? Since starting work on my current project, I've had four corrupted RSD files and have lost a couple days' work. From previous threads, I know I can submit a problem ticket and send the file to CC to analyze and fix, but my file's almost 400MB (mostly images, I guess). The RSD file structure seems to me to be similar to a Microsoft Access or zip file, in that it holds everything inside it that comprises the website. It would be nice to have a tool to open, examine and fix a broken file.

This has happened to me too. What i have done to fix the issue is a few things.

1. Make sure you have no images over 1mb in your folders
2. Compress your images and add them in groups of 25 or less. This works for some reason.

I think this may be a windows issue as well. I have switch to Mac and its been about 2 months... have never had an issue with this again.

Thanks very much for the information, Steve. I'll go back and look to see if any of my images are over 1MB and shrink them, and also make sure I don't add a lot of images between saves. I wish I'd known about these limitations earlier.

But I still think RSD should have a built-in file checker, or at least a caution if certain actions could cause problems. From now on, I'm doing incremental saves about every 15-30 minutes so I don't lose too much work.

Yes Absolutely! You never want to have images that size... it would take for ever to load your website especially on a mobile device. You should never have any image over 1mb.... you should look for a image compressor... that will save you tonnes of time too.

Keep in mind that you don't have to shrink the images in the size of the image itself, just optomize the image to make the file size smaller. You should make sure that any large images are in .jpg format before doing this as well. Here's a couple links to where you can get free image optimizer apps:

Many thanks, Steve and Jo, for your very helpful suggestions. Using IrfanView to batch the images to a 1MB max limit without touching images already below that size, I reduced the RSD file size by about 90% without adverse effect on image quality. If there was an image file size caveat somewhere in CC's documentation, I sure missed it. But it makes good sense anyway to keep image sizes manageable for quick loading. I'll be sure to keep this in mind for the rest of this project and all future ones.

Irfanview is an awesome program. There isn't usually a reason for having such large images. (Notice the word usually.). I find changing png to jpg can get a lot of compression without losing quality. Images well over 1MB can be reduced by 60-80% sometimes.
