Question on Columns and Breakpoints...
I just learned how to set a breakpoint using RSD and substituting one background image for another when the screen size goes below my breakpoint's threshold.
My static page has right and left gutter columns of 1 span each and a middle column of 10 spans.
I would like to eliminate the gutter columns when the screen size goes small as it will give me more real estate (no gutters) on small screens.
I tried to do implement as follows, but it didn't seem to work: position the screen slider so I am within the desired breakpoint. Then click on the right most gutter column in a row (this is a one span column). In the layout screen merge columns left hand direction twice. Now I have one column that is 12 spans wide and my content looks correct, just spred out over 12 spans instead of 10.
When I try to test the column I find that the column I just modified always shows as 12 spans. I was hoping I could have a 1 span gutter on the right and a 1 span gutter on the left when the page is viewed on a desktop monitor and the gutters would go away when the page is viewed on an ipad mini or cell phone.
Can RSD do this? If so, how?
Thanks in advance.
Ken Levin.

What you need to do I think (if I have understood correctly) is.....
At the lower breakpoint you set the Position display for the left & Right gutter columns (as you call them to : "none"
At the lower breakpoint you set the Position display for the left & Right gutter columns (as you call them to : "none"

Set the width of the column at the lower break points to 12 spans.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

there is also another way
1/ set your column to 12 spans for all sizes,
2/ insert a container into that column
3/ set the container width to a % value of your choice (say 90% ) at the highest widths (adjust if you want until you reach something that you feel looks ok)
4/ set the left / right margins for the container to "Auto"
4/ take the slider down to the your smaller breakpoint, at that point, set the container width to 100% (as you move the slider down, you can always adjust the container width, by increasing or decreasing the % value up to you to visually make the decision.
Inset any elements into the container as you would have done into the column
