Wayan,

I think that may be better than a pop up or modal. I've never used a callout so can it be configured to close and go to another page?

I just haven't had time to research that yet with this hurricane strolling by Florida. We were in the bullseye but now may have dodged a big bullet.

Sure it can it's just a close button, you can set the href to anything page, modal or other url

I didn't explain that clearly enough. What I was asking was can it be set up with a close button but also have a link button. I just haven't had time to see what I could do with it. I'll try tomorrow and see what all I can stuff into a call out. :D

well Ernie, you can put what you like into the container, my example has 3 links inside that go to a modal window, and other page, you don't even need the close button, if you just want the call out to remain visible and use the other link button (s) to navigate to another section or page or other url

How could you create a cookie where the user would only see the call out once in SD?

Yes you can create a cookie to do that or a js script. Or as in the case of the example a landing page that then takes the visitor to the main pages

Please note,
what I have put up is only one example of a number of ways to achieve something like the original poster required, the most simple way is as Inger suggested is to have a unique landing page with the info required displayed (doesn't have to be a landing page just for mobiles).

So for Ernie and the summer promo deals for the store, a landing page that has the deals in full display where the visitor can go directly to a shopping cart to buy the goods on promo is ideal, or one could build in some link to the real site f they prefer to browse around first

For Robert B
a unique landing page with a call out, outlining the camping site conditions etc (as detailed) is another way to do it, with the call out displaying the message needed, and then whe the visitor has read it, the link takes them to the main part of the site where they can browse as normal.

Both of these suggestions do not require the call out or modal or page to use a cookie only once as the loading page thereafter is only accessible by either starting again a new session or using the back button, (however many times needed)

To display a call out or a modal or a pop up on a sites page only once per user per session is a different kettle of fish, and requires either JQuery or JS or .cookie scripts to be added to the page (s) which is a little bit complicated and requires more than a modicum of basic knowledge.

If one is thinking for instance about a cookie notification banner (as is required nowadays), then there are plenty of simple free sites that can create one for you (and will only appear once) some have watermarks to show that the banner was created by XXXXX.com, others don't, either way its much easier to doi it that way than mess around for hours and hours trying to get your own custom cookie to work.

Maybe one of the JS Gurus here can put something together, but it is really quite a bit of work.

Wayan,

Thank you for the explanation. This is on my list of things to do today.

Hello Inger and Wayan.

Thank you for your response. Both solutions sound good.

@Inger. If I understand correctly, a page for smartphone and tablet with the most urgent things that I want my visitors to know first and also the most important things which you can find on the rest of my website for a big screen. Such as a short description, where we are, button to google maps, how much it costs and telephone number etcetera.

For if you want to know something quickly and do not have to dig through an entire website. And if people still want to read more that they click on a button "continue reading the website".

Will this become a second "index.html" page? Via a redirect to the landing page specially for mobile devices?

And Inger, I have all the time. I only start after the camping season. That will be in October. I am now looking at what I will need for my site and already trying to create and download some components. And of course I follow the forum because this "Thread" suddenly came by when I was thinking about it. At first I thought of a "Modal" but apparently it can be done differently.

@Wayan. If this becomes a landing page then that is the "index.html" page. Because then you could turn your landing page (index.html) into a "Call Out" page with a number of points that you want to let know immediately and then click on a button for the rest of the website. Such as the "OK I Got It" button.

The page is mainly for people who are on their way from campsite to campsite and only have a smartphone or tablet with them. I want to let them know at a glance where they are going and what they can expect. Perhaps for those people who sit behind their big screen at home this is not so nice for the holiday mood. They want more pictures and space I think.
And I am thinking of using the page for small devices only during the camping season.

I really don't want to kick anyone for his shins but maybe Inger's idea is just a little more suitable for my purposes.

In any case, thank you both for thinking along and the ideas you give me.

And if someone thinks I have misunderstood something, please let me know.

Regards,
Robert

Wayan,

If I want the call out to animate out do I use code from the Foundation site or is there a class that will work in SD 4?
