I'm sorry if this has already been answered - how do I change the default paragraph width? It's currently 8 and the column is 12, but I'd like to make the paragraph 10 or even 12.

And how do I get the widths to show up? I did it once (blue vertical bars), but I'll be d#%ned if I can do it again.

Select a paragraph and on the Design pane set the width as a percentage of the parent container (that parent can be a column, see below) or set a maximum width. If you use the Type selector (Apply to Type) it applies to all paragraphs. If you Apply to class, it applies to all paragraphs that are using that class.

The columns width can be managed on the Layout pane . If the paragraph is placed directed into a column its width is relative (100% or less) to that (parent) column. If the column span (width) increases, so will the paragraph. Experiment with it for a few minutes and all will become clear I am sure :P

Hope this helps!

I see Eric and Bob crossed posts — Eric being way more to the point (as usual).

Thank you for your help. But I must still be missing something. My column width is 12, my paragraph is set to 100% width, but the paragraph is only 8 wide and I can only make it narrower, not wider.

Can you share your project file, so we can see what may be causing this?

William, to see the grid, go to the bottom of the layout pane and click the 'eyeball' icon.

To get a paragraph to span the whole width, I clicked on 'add row' then drug a paragraph into it. I didn't set any right/left padding or margins, so it takes up the full row width (12 col.). Under Layout > Column, I can change it to 10 or 11 columns with one click.

Check all your settings (rows, columns, paragraphs) to see if you've added any margins, padding, or even classes that would affect the width.

Adam & paintbrush - thank you both for your replies. I haven't set up a dropbox/cloud share yet, and probably should. But adding a row and sticking a paragraph in it did the trick; I never would've guessed that!

Thanks again,
Bill
