I select the html element and a stripped section appears in the pane. Now what, all I see is the options to duplicate or delete. How do I bring in another web page? Right click menu has no Open page option, and if I go to the file menu the Open file option wants to save current file or discard it. There something very fundamental that I'm missing here.

Oh, I think I see. I go over to the element tree and select the html pane. From there I can copy and past my html or type something in. I can't seem to type on the main pane. This is really a strange way to do this... Heading back to learn.
