I just want to make a simple website that has links to photo galleries (that I already created in Lightroom) and videos.
I just bought Site Designer and I am having trouble getting started.
I assumed I would create some sort of 'project' put it in a folder and then start building out the site.
Somewhere I would assume would be the top 'index' page, and then folders under that with 'images', 'js', etc.
I am SUPER confused on how this thing works...
How do I set up my folders, etc. that I want to put images in, and are those specific to my project? It almost looks like there is some master repository of images, etc. or you add folders to some list that will be available to all future projects.
Is there a 'Getting started' video that explains how to organize media, etc. and then in the end how this will be exported to upload to another site?

Second question for the newbie:
How do I import or link to and existing webpage and then view this page in Site Designer? I have a slide slow I already created, I would like to have Designer link to it (I can figure out how to do this) but I would like to be able to view it in Designer as well and add a link back to the home page I created in Designer. Can Designer view/add pages created outside the program?

Hi Mike
The first thing You need to tell people on this forum is which framework you are using to vreate your project
although some things are done in fairly similar ways, the different framweorks do sometimes need different approaches

So is it
1/ Foundation
2/Bootstrap 3 or 4
Materialize
4/ Frameworkless Mobile First or desktop Down

???

I will get back to you.

No problems
As I have said to other newbies both here on this forum and on my site, All frameworks in Site Designer are pretty cool,
Foundation is probably the one most people use because it has lots & lots of things you can do with it, and there are many people here on this site that can, do and are willing to help.

I can use all frameworks but prefer Foundation, although I have to say I did an experiment with a website recently and I made it in all frameworks, I was impressed with Bootstrap 4, and Frameworkless which sort of surprised me, I would say however that although frameworkless has "Desktop Down" as an option, i(which many newcomers like)t is also, in my opinion, a little more advanced than the others and requires some prior knowledge of code and the way designing & developing together needs, some of the things that come as standard on other frameworks, for example, need custom code to make things work in framworkless, which means that you can't view what you have done, are doing WITHIN site designer, you need to keep viewing things on a browser (preview
on)

But it is totally up to you whichever one you may feel most comfortable with,

Don't be afraid to shout out for help and guidance on this forum no matter how complicated or trivial it may seem, we have all been there seen it and got the tee shirt.

Wayan,
Thanks for being so patient. I looked around and I don't have any idea what framework I am working in or how to find out. I started with a template, but I have no idea what I'm doing. Trying to slog through tutorials, manuals, etc. but I am stuck at ground zero...
Thanks for any help.
How do I find out what framework I am using?

Look to the top left of the project there is a small icon image

What colour is it?

Or right at the very top it tells you for instance

Site designer - foundation 6.6.3 mobile first indicates the framework

Or which template are you using?

Wayan,
An update. I notice at the top of my page it says "Materialize 1.0.0 - Mobile First" so maybe I am using the wrong framework altogether!
Maybe I should start over and figure out how to use "Foundation" - Perhaps I will have an answer by the time you get back to this...
Thanks - Mike

Well materialize is ok and there are some coffeecupers use it who may be able to help now that we know which one you use unless if course you decide to swap ;)

Wayan
I have opened a new project, and started with a Foundation template. (I used the Kiro photographer template) Hopefully now you can help.
I am still pretty confused on file organization. Should I put all the images I want to use in a folder called 'images' in the folder I am going to eventually export to, or does it not matter. I get the sense Designer will create and gather all the assets when I hit export, is this correct or is there some workflow I should follow as best practice.?

The next question would be how to link an existing slideshow in that has an 'index' page already set up using Lightroom exported files - I would have to edit the top page of this to put a link back to my home page, and I'm not sure how to open existing pages to edit them in Designer. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance
Mike
