Hi there,

I'm VERY late to the game, upgrading from VSD. Loving SD so far, but it is way more complicated that VSD.

I've done the 1st set of 8 video tutorials several times. That is the extent of my experience.

My first question (of many, no doubt) is about copying text into an SD long paragraph. After copying the text into the paragraph, the text (white) looks fine in the program, but when I hit preview, it looks like a layer of black has covered it, and it is unreadable (although barely visible) behind the black mask. I looked at several things. Opacity is fine. If I type the text myself, it also shows up fine. It's only when I copy and paste words into my paragraph that it happens. I'm stumped. Can you help me?

I have the same problem, I have reported it to CC gurus
In the meanwhile what I do is once the text has been pasted, and it has all that black background stuff etc,

I select all the text again and hit the "Reset Format" button, this then reverts the text back to the normal styling, unfortunately, it also gets rid of the breaks that were there, so one has to go through it again and add any breaks that were there, a bit of a pain, but better than re-typing the whole paragraph again especially if its a long one. until there is some sort of fix, that's the best I can tell you, maybe there is another way someone else has found out how to do it.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue but recently I was copying and pasting some text into SD and I also had a dark background behind the text. I fixed this be opening a text editor (Tintca, but most anything should work) and pasting the text into that. Then I copied that text again from Tintca and pasted it into SD. Worked perfectly without any background this time. Hope that helps.

Thank you both for the responses!

Wayan, your suggestion worked. It's great to know that it is a bug...but also disturbing. My site is text-heavy, so this will be a pain.

I will keep experimenting to find a better solution. In the meantime, thanks!

Well now I don't know when the next update will be released or even if it will be fixed. In the meantime John's suggestion will be the way to go especially if that keep the formatting

I have no idea what a "text editor" is, sorry. Doesn't MS Word edit text? And I did a search for "Tintca" text editor which turned up nothing.

So, unless you have further clarification, I am stuck with reformatting.

MS Word is a text editor, Note Pad is a text editor

To keep from cluttering the forum, I am going to ask all of my questions in this thread. Hope that is OK.

The biggest question at this point (I am keeping the design elements simple) is how to create and link to additional pages in the website. In VSD it was a snap. I did a search here for linking to pages, and this document turned it up:

https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles … -designer/

The author went on and on about how simple and easy it was. I couldn't follow. Can anyone give me simple and straightforward directions for creating new pages, and links to those pages? Or better yet, is there a video you can direct me to? I follow videos pretty well. :)

Thanks!

To create a new page open the "Structure Data" tab on the top menu
slide on over to the Manage Page tab bottom left is a blue button which creates a new page,(or the button next to it creates a duplicate page the page will be given a name Blank
slide on back up to where the page name Blank is displayed, highlight it and put whatever name you want your page to be

You reference the "Href" on whatever links you have that you want to point to a page

select the link
move over to the "Element" tab
slide down to the"href" section,
in the empty box to the right you enter (pagename.html) WITHOUT THE BRACKETS

Give it a title (something to describe to the users what is going to happen
target=blank etc

Boom there is your link to the other page

Repeat as necessary

I can do a video if you get stuck

I tried copying the text from Site Designer into Notepad, and then back into Site Designer. It didn't change anything.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
