Looking to save some time with text...

I have four pages with three columns of text on each page. These will be a list of manufacturers.

I set a class for the text and added a little bottom margin. Went into the editor and set my font and font weight.

When I add the class for the text element it adds the margin but not the font or font weight.

I haven't had to do this before and with the amount of text elements I'd like to automate as much as I can. Any pointers would be great.

Thanks.

Make sure it doesn't have a css targeting id or type.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Eric,

It was blank when I created the text element and I added a class of 'text-spacing'. No id added.
I'm only one column into this so I can restart if needed. I did try adding a class inside the text editor but it won't let me.

Ernie, when you say 'went into the editor...' do you mean the text editor? Like where you write the text? Don't do that. The classes you can set within the text editor are only valid for e.g. parts of text that are highlighted, like if you want some words in italic or bold or so. Make all the font settings within the Styles - Design, possibly also some in Styles - Layout. By 'Styles' I mean the Style pane, obviously.

I'm confused. How do we highlight the text we want to edit if we're not in the text editor? That's the only way I've ever been able to edit text. What have I been missing?

OK, I finally 'see' what you are talking about. I have never done that before. I've seen a couple of conversations but never quite understood 'how' to do that. Thanks for making my brain work harder today.

If you have a text element or a paragraph, header etc and want to EDIT the text (add text, change text etc) you need to be in the text editor.
If you want to STYLE text, you don't go into the text editor. The exception to this is if you want to style just part of the text.

I think Suzanne's instructions and video here are useful regarding this. In fact, the whole of that tutorial with videos is worth studying.

Frank,

Thanks for the link. I actually saw that a long time ago. It still doesn't fully explain (for my mechanical brain) what Inger posted in her 'clear as muddy water' post.

That tutorial just didn't ring the bell so to speak.

I think this is where people ask why there aren't any specific tutorials about things like this and get frustrated. I never realized that I could style text by just clicking on (in this case) a 'text' element and styling it from the Style pane.

I'll bet there are a ton of users doing this with the inline editor and don't know what I didn't know. How is this going to affect the code in a website? Will I have to go back and rebuild sites where I've used the editor to 'edit' text?

Or, can I fix all the text by re-editing it in the style pane and re-adding my classes?

Aaaaaaaaaaaag.
