Curtis rightly raised the matter of what would happen "if I'm editing a component with an ID, and then I switch to a component that doesn't have an ID".

The current position seems to me to be that, if no ID has already been assigned to an element, and one selects Apply to ID, no ID is automatically assigned. If one then selects Apply To Class before making any style adjustment, no ID is assigned.

If the proposal at the start of this thread were to be implemented at some stage, I would suggest that the current situation mentioned in the paragraph above be maintained for the situation mentioned by Curtis.

Right now (also in V1.2) an ID is auto-assigned when styles are applied to an ID but no name has been given yet. We originally planned to maintain that behavior.

Thanks. There seems now greater clarity of intention if the proposal goes ahead -
1. while in the Design panel there would always be in view an indicator of the Apply To type/class/id regarding the element;
2. as now, automatic assignment of IDs etc. wouldn't occur unless a style adjustment were made.

If I may be forgiven a further suggestion, it seems possible that the indicator mentioned in item 1 above could include the ability to change the type/class/id. I'm not suggesting that the Apply To box be removed, but that one had effectively a short-cut to changing the type/class/id if the Apply To box happens to have scrolled up out of view. With that addition, I would find the proposal at the start of this thread most welcome.
