ImageMapper, is anybody using it?

Is anybody using ImageMapper in a responsive design? It's an old tool, pre-responsive, but the latest version has some html that supposedly makes it responsive. The image reference (img src="Name...)is in that html and the image never displays in previews of my project. I have a gripe about it in my support room but I think Suzanne Norvell is losing patience with me.

It works by drawing boxes on a bitmap and giving them URLs. Click inside the box and be taken to that link. Making it responsive (i.e., having different size images for different viewports) would necessitate redrawing the bitmap boxes for each image size - a ton and a half of work for the designer.

Not changing image size would be a different problem. My image for large viewports (>1500 px) is 700 Kb, a bit large to be sent to a cellphone.

The latest version is responsive
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I guess I don't know what "responsive" means, then. I thought it meant that a website would deliver viewport-appropriate content, mainly with regard to image size. Text is text. A small screen would get a small image file of small bandwidth and larger screens would get larger images capable of showing greater detail but with larger file sizes.

If this is not true, what does "responsive" mean?

Hi Stonecherub
Could you not just embed the map file as responsive element ?

Adrian:

I looked up embedresponsively on the web and what I read seemed to be about embedding video.

Suzanne Norvell, from the help desk, told me that ImageMapper is now deprecated and no longer a CoffeeCup product. It has not been upgraded in several years and appears to be incompatible with SD3.x for reasons that are just over the edge of my knowledge.

The issue is officially moot!

This could be done now using SD3 Grid Layout using % for the columns and rows. You really have just a math problem which requires you to layout a button link on top of a picture (both set relative to the grid container) using a responsive grid broken up into sections that are easily discoverable from the x y position in Coffeecup Image Mapper.

It would also give you the ability to then choose the picture download sizes at different breakpoints while maintaining the same locations.

PHEW
With all due respect to Mr Stonecherub, that is going to be way beyond his capability at the moment
