if I put all in a container (relative), picture then link container (absolute to have same place as picture with hover state) then text, all works fine.

Hi ycarry
You can also go into text editor for the text, then highlight any part of the text (or all of it) and then at the top of the text editor panel is a section where you can place a link, just for the highlighted text you have chosen.
Pretty useful if for example you have a few words and you want just one or two of them to be a link, but the others not (say for example you have a paragraph & you want to have the words "Read More" link to more information) then you can highlight those two words & place a link on them.
just a little bit of additonal information for future use if you want
, Your solution is also a good one as the link works for everything inside the container
