Now that I have my site up on my own server, is there a way to hide or make private the site on CC's server? I don't want Google or anyone else going there with search. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
T.

In the root directory of my website on the CoffeeCup server I put a file named robots.txt containing the following text

User-Agent: *
Disallow: /

If one wants to be more specific about which robots should be disallowed, there is a robots text file generator at http://tools.seobook.com/robots-txt/generator/ and there is more information at http://tools.seobook.com/robots-txt/.

Thanks, I'll take a look. If that's in there, it will never show up if someone is searching for our site?

The robots.txt procedure is advisory to robots, and not cast-iron protection. I have for some time been using the CoffeeCup server for testing an intended revision to my website, the public version of which is on another server. The CoffeeCup site has never shown up on Google to my knowledge.

There is an article on robots.txt in Wikipedia which goes into some detail.

So where it asks for a root directory (for CC), what would that be?

tanyasolomon.coffeecup.com/site

Is that it?

Also, how do I add the text file? With RSD? Or do I upload that file directly to CC's server?

tanyasolomon.coffeecup.com/site/ would indeed be the root directory.

After creating the robots.txt file using Windows Notepad or some other text editor, one can in RSD open the Project Resources panel (by clicking on the Resources icon at the top) and
(a) click on '/project folder' at the top left (to ensure that the root directory is selected), and
(b) click on Add Files and choose the robots.txt file one has made.
The robots.txt file will then automatically go into the root directory on exporting from RSD.

If one wishes to upload the robots.txt file direct to S-Drive, one may simply (while logged into the CoffeeCup website) go to Services > Your Sites. In one's site the root directory is what shows first, and using the Upload Files button from there will allow the uploading of the robots.txt file.

Ok, thanks! Done :) (uploaded directly to CC since I don't want it on the actual server I use for the website)

I have got to ask why you have your site on the CC space, as well as on your own server? If you don't want people to see your site on CC just take it off

The site for the public was prepared while I was learning RLM. The one on the CC server is being prepared with RSD and taking advantage of the Flex facilities etc. While I'm making and testing the revision of the site I don't want both sites indexed by Google etc.

Whilst I could do it wholly off-line, that would not allow testing on various mobile devices etc. as I proceed.

I wasn't referring to you Frank I was referring to the original poster Tanya, Of course if the site is still being developed of course use CC space for testing etc, but once the site is developed and fully running on another server, why keep the old one on CC especially if you don'want anyone to see it thats all
