If I was anybody I would wait a bit before downloading the project from the Dropbox link just for a short time as it could be a corrupted file.

Me again
Having said all of the previous, have you tried opening a new project and adding pages?
If it doesn't do what it does with your other project file then you can assume that old one is corrupted and needs ditching, if it still does it follow the previous steps to remove site designer.

I have downloaded the project and opened it. It didn't take long before I had all the tool panels disappearing on me. I closed and reopened it, and it was ok again. But one thing I noticed, was that in 'Preview on' none of the formatting/styling was showing. That seemed very strange, I had never seen that in SD before. Looking through the resources, I found a CSS folder, so I thought there must be some custom CSS, but I couldn't find any file linked to in Page Manager or on the Element pane. Anyway, I opened the CSS folder and found the 'system' bootstrap CSS files. Among them was the main.css and it was completely empty! Well, that explains the preview showing no styles. The main.css in Resources is overwriting the 'real' main.css that appears after export.

So Quentin, delete the CSS folder from the Resources! It shouldn't be there!

Another thing you could change is in the file names, where you are separating words by adding a full stop between them. The common way of doing it is by using dashes or underscores.

So unless I am completely misunderstanding here, how if he can't even open site designer is he expected to delete that spurious file and change other things???

Hiya...so much appreciation for all your help, everyone. The software has not only crashed but will not let me in, even after a reinstall, having cleaned the files off and then importing the files.
I think the problem started when I was using the, "duplicate page", in page manager. I started slowly and then happened far more frequently. The lack of CSS is so confusing, don't know how I got to that!

I didn't say that he should NOT follow your advice, did I?

Besides, getting rid of that CSS folder doesn't solve everything. I did it here with the downloaded project file. Then, just for the sake of it, I tried making the header section a bit smaller by setting a limit on the logo image, making the text smaller for narrow widths, etc, and all of a sudden my tool panes were gone again. I haven't seen any other obvious culprits, but there surely must be some more issues buried in that project.

thanks for the info, I will certainly rename using _ and probably shorter page names. Can't reinstall that's the problem. All the files are currently off the PC.
