Copying an RSD page from one project...

Hi there,

I was wondering if there was a way to copy pages from one project to another.

I was working on a project and for some reason, I then worked on the previous/older version of that project and added 2 pages which took a while to do. Then I realised what I'd done and the easiest thing would be to copy those 2 pages across to the most up to date version.

Is this possible?

Thanks, Maz

You can do that if you copy the 'Element HTML' from one project and paste it into the third 'box' on the Element pane of the other project, where is says 'Enter your contact code for this element'.
If you want to copy over the complete page, make sure you have the outermost element selected in both projects.

Hi there,

Didn't properly understand what was required. I have HEAD CODE and FOOTER CODE for the 2nd and 3rd boxes. I copied it in to the HEADER CODE but the project displayed the old text but when viewed in the browser, it does show the updated page that I just pasted but I suspect this is wrong anyway because I can't view the newly pasted containers in the INSPECTOR pane or the work screen BUT it does kind of show up when I preview in a browser.

In the element pane, I can't see the 3rd box that you mentioned ('Enter your contact code for this element' box). I have this (if I'm doing it right): please see screenshot 104

And if I copy the code, is it this way I do it (if the whole page)? please see screenshot 105

Thanks, Maz

Hi
Please excuse my chipping in here but I am not sure that just inserting the html code into the code section would do it, what about the CSS and or js and any images for those pages, I am pretty sure without that too it won't look right, and then if that's the case all that messing about would be so fraught with the possibilities of making mistakes that for my penny worth it would be better and more reliable to accept the original error and just make the two new pages in the correct project file, which shouldn't take that long to do as one can easily copy and paste any content (text headings etc) from one project file to the other one.

I maybe wrong but I suspect that unfortunately there is no easy, safe and simple way

Maz, It seems that you haven't got the latest SD version. You need build 3499 for this.
Besides, Anonymouse is right. I have done the operation I described a couple of times, but that was within the same project. I guess you could copy the CSS and everything else too, but it would be too much fiddling around to make it work. I think you have to bite the bullet...

I am sorry it seems I posted my reply at just about the same time as yours

I recently made a similar mistake on one of my project files I tried, everything I could think of, before I realised that with the amount of time I spent messing about it would have been quicker to just make the page from scratch which is what I did, kicking myself at the same time, but also learning a lesson not to do that again !!

Make sure the entire page is put in a div.

Create a component of the div the save it to your component library.

Open the new project. Add the component that you just created to the list of project components.

Create your new page and then add the component that you created. Your whole page is moved over.
