Component Editing - Post ID 295000

Quick question...
I have saved my header and nav menu all together as a Component. And I simply insert that Component into each new page (or just duplicate a page that has it and then change the body of the new page). Doing the same thing for my footer. This is working great and saving me time!

But..... If I decide to make a change later, or notice one menu link is spelled wrong or has the wrong link, then is there a way to make that edit to the Component and have it correct the Component on every other page that already has that Component? Like changing some css that has a class and everything else sitewide that has that class changes too?

Or with Components, if I make a change after the whole site is built, I just have to go through and edit the Component on each & every page?

I tried to save the edited Component with a new name and then go to each page and delete the old one and insert the new one, and it won't do it. For instance, when I do this on page 2 of the site, it tells me "A component with the same identifier already exists in your project." So I'm assuming that is referring to the new component that is now on page 1?
I can duplicate pages with the same component in them, but I can't go through and add the same component to each page?

Just trying to find a way to do this quickly. If I want to change the alt text on every menu link, then I don't mind changing them on one and saving as a component and then just add the new component to each page. But if I have to go to each & every page and edit the alt text on each & every link, then I'm thinking components are only time savers if you don't have to edit them later. (I still love them though!)
Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips? Tricks?

Eric,
Actually, I was just trying to add alt-text to some of the links (edit them) in my footer, then save it as a new component and simply run through each page entering the new component and deleting the old one. At first I thought I couldn't do it, but then I learned about the green "+" button on components and it did what I wanted!

But then you mentioned Symbols and I knew I needed to get back to those and read up on them again anyway to remind myself of wht they do. And just now I realized I needed to add a new (additional) link in my footer, so I made one and used Symbols to run through and slap it in the footer of each page real quick. Done!

It took me a while to get a grasp of how this software works (mostly because I only had a few hours every few months to mess with it). But now I've got the hang of it enough that I can figure out what I don't know (or understand better when you all help me) and I am not getting as frustrated. So things are finally moving right along for me and I am LOVING working with this program!

Your doing it the way you should. Mess around and try things and if your thinking it, ask it.
