Basic Stuff for a non-developer

I have used the Site Designer to modify some templates. I have to say that it is so cool - but the easiest things seem tough for a non-designer.
Check out my template I downloaded and modified.
www.newhomenation.com

I am simply trying to add a menu item to the top bar - but for some reason cannot drop in another link to do so. For example, I just want to add a text link that says "Contact" - yet cannot seem to do this easily. When I try to drag and drop a container it doesn't let me put this in line next to the other items. Instead, it places the container above the other items.

To make matters worse- I had to bring use FTP to install into a day-earlier backup to get the site to work correctly. But now I cannot seem to get Site Designer to open the previously saved project - but I do have access to those files - but the .rsd file takes me to the new problematic version. Any ideas how to revert to previous - File Revert to Saved is greyed out.

Sorry if these are too basic.

THX

Help would be appreciated.

Hi
Firt of all you can "Duplicate an existing Link/button whatever in your menu. then just simply re-type the words and change the target link to wherever you want it to go.

what happens if you right click on the Site designer Icon?

it should show you 'Recently used files" (whatever you saved the previous version name to be.)

actually, if the link is in a container, you duplicate the container, not the link

File > 'Revert to Saved Project' refers to the last saving of the project file (.rsd) on which one is working. If one opens a project file and has made no significant changes to that file in the current session, the 'Revert to Saved Project' remains greyed out.

I often find it helpful to create a folder for a project, naming the folder appropriately just for that project. I name the first saving of a project file '00.rsd'. After making changes to the project I use File > 'Save As ...' (Ctrl+Shift+s is the keyboard shortcut), naming it as '01.rsd'. Eventually in this way I have in the folder I have a series of project files for the same project, and can open any of them using File > 'Open Recents'.

The above allows me, after making blunders (I'm good at making those), to revert to a good working version with ease. It's also worth remembering that sometimes one can reverse out of blunders by repeatedly using Ctrl+z on the keyboard (which is the same as using Edit > Undo in the menu).

HI Frank. Thanks for the replies. I made a large mistake in that I saved my botched .rsd version upon export of files. So this saved the .rsd with the incorrect version. I was saving the files to new folders each day and I was able to copy the correct files directly on FTP (thereby fixing my website). The problem now is trying to get the "good" files to open back into Site Designer. In other words, the recent .rsd is the wrong version - it looks like I should have been saving different .rsd versions throughout the day instead of just changing the folder names.

That being said, is there anyway to import in the correct files under the saved .rsd?

THX for your help :)

If the 'problematic' .rsd file can be opened, it's just possible that someone in the forum will be able to fix it. You would need to zip it and attach it to a post in this thread explaining the problem that needs fixing.

If it won't open at all, you could zip it and attach it to a request in https://www.coffeecup.com/help/myroom/ . The CoffeeCup team can sometimes rescue corrupted files.

Otherwise I would suggest the following.

It seems that perhaps
1. the website was fixed by uploading correct files (e.g. a picture file) from exports from the .rsd file;
2. the saving the files to new folders each day was the saving of exports from the .rsd file;
3. the .rsd file itself was not being saved under another name or in different folders under the same name.

If that is so, I think it might not be possible unless you have a backup system that allows the retrieval of a .rsd file from an earlier time. I use imaging software daily for such purposes, keeping the whole-drive backup on an external drive.

If item 3 above is incorrect and the .rsd files were being saved under different names, then (in Windows at least, and in an up-to-date Windows 11 at best) a search using File Explorer should help to find them, and one of them may do the trick, as mentioned by Wayan.

If item 3 above is incorrect and the .rsd file was being saved in different folders under the same name, a search as mentioned above may find them. In that case I would be inclined to test them one by one as follows (again I'm assuming that the OS is Windows).
(a) change the file name to something unique using F2 on the keyboard;
(b) open the file.

If all else fails, you could remake the .rsd file. You already have the text, pictures etc.
