Add menu to project

I have a geologist's question (which is to say that I know more about rocks than about SDv3 ). Inger sent me some code for a drop down menu and I have no idea how to add this to my project nor have I been able to find any documentation.

Suggestions would be appreciated, particularly suggestions on how to find documentation.

I'm not sure what you mean by code

Did Inger send you a Sdv3 project file as a component?

What I did was posting this: https://www.coffeecup.com/forums/site-d … post282061

Stonecherub, you need to unzip the file and then open it in SD3. I'm saying, though, in that other post, that I have NOT made it with Vanilla as I don't know that system too well. My suggestion is made with Foundation, so you will have to take the big decision whether to scrap my suggestion, or change over to Foundation.

Also, your original post about this was in a thread which was meant for people showing off their sites, not for asking questions. This thread here is for people posting their tips and tricks, not for asking questions. That is why I created that new thread for you, where your questions - and hopefully our replies - could be found easily, without having to wade through several threads and other people's posts about other things.

Inger:

Thanks for your help. I downloaded your "fixed-header dropdown nav" which is what I want. I saved it as a theme but I cannot further save it as a component. Whatever i select from the elements list, the components menu shows "No component selected." I have made other components so I know the process works, just not on this menu.

I only work on this occasionally.

The 'No component selected' hasn't got anything to do with creating components, only with selecting already made ones from the components repository.
Just select the 'parent' container and proceed with 'create component from selection'.

I don't know what else was changed, other than a fix in the Page manager. Earlier the programme crashed if you happened to change the file name of the index file, and then wanted to change again.

Got the Fixed header dropdown nav zip from your site and it does what I want - sort of. As with everything CoffeeCup, nothing is easy and stuff happens for completely hidden reasons.

I want a thin, fixed header with a title and a menu drop-down icon which is on the current build, the best site build so far.

http://pppotscom.coffeecup.com/index.html

It works for me with the default fonts. The search was removed and all heights reduced to 45 px.

However, when I try to make this menu into a component for use on my pages, everything goes to hell. I select container-1 also called parent and "create component from selection." The hidden flag on #dropdown-1 does not transfer, so that when I "insert into canvas," the menu is visible.

I'm doing something wrong but don't know what, so I don't know how to fix it.

I'll pay you fifty bucks an hour to help me fix this mess. I want a turn-key website framework where I can tell my stories with the picture+paragraph containers I used for the one at the URL.

The page looks good, Stonecherub. If I were you, I would give the header text a small left margin, 10px or so, to create a bit of space between it and the 'hamburger'.

I would need to see your project file to be able to understand what is not working. By that I mean not just the component you made, but the project where it is working (I don't need all the images and text, just the top of the page). Pop it into your dropbox and I'll take a look.

I'm not sure how to do that. I could make a copy of what I have and cut all but the first one or two images.

Also, I use dropbox so rarely that I don't know how to send you the link.

Yes, make a copy and then instead of removing the images from the page, just open the Resources and delete them from there. The images make it a big file, but without the images you could perhaps just zip the file and post it here.

If you need to use Dropbox, just add the project file and rightclick on it (inside Dropbox). You will see a dialog box with the various options, and you see the Dropbox icon, and to the right of it it says copy the dropbox link.

Just to make it easy for you, I'll send you a mail through the CC system and give you my address. I don't want to post it here in the open forum. Then you could send me the project as a mail-attachment.
