Client from address below wanting to order from my site, in signature.

I can't understand why he is having a problem with payment says he can't convert to make payment

" Viv, Let me rephrase the question. Are your prices on the website in
Euro's? The "£" symbol is not recognized in any of my currency
converters."
Respectfully,

Hi Jewelcraft

Problem likely to be because currency converters use GBP for British pounds rather than the symbol £.

Jewel - I just checked one of my sites that has conversion capabilities. It shows £ as the symbol, and GBP as the code as John stated above. And from what I can see, today's rate of exchange, if your item costs 1GBP it would be 1.68USD. Of course I would suggest you double check that as I don't ever take my word for it ;)

I can't understand this at all when i used cubecart (Who Swore ?) i had quite a lot of orders from US , Spain, Northern and southern ireland, even Australia, and never once was i ever asked to convert

Basically a client in America etc. just knew what it was and paid in relevant currency

This customer seems to be suggesting it wont allow him to order or that he can only see it as Euro's (website in £)

I have already sent him the exchange rate, but not the exact amount as he hasn't stipulated which exact item, possibly one of 3 all at very different prices £100's of pounds apart , he wants to buy

I am just slightly concerned in case it is a scam , as its going to be a large order i think .

I cant see a way from UK to check how an order would proceed on site when made from USA

And this is first one on CC site

Any ideas ? ????

Jewel - If the customer is paying by credit card (via PayPal for instance) neither you nor he should have to convert it. I've made overseas purchases before on my card online and the conversion was all done automatically (either at the bank or by PayPal). I would just give him the 'going' rate and remind him that the rate may change between now and the purchase so any conversions that he calculates would be estimations only. The bank/PP will convert based on the rates at the time of purchase.

Hi Viv. I sell my stuff all over the world and currency conversion is no problem at all. If a customer wants an approximation of the conversion rate xe.com is the place to go. Likewise xe.com will also tell you what the conversion from USD (dollars) to GBP (pounds) is.

As regards online scams, you can only go with your own judgement on that.

Thank you both for your replies

And yes i agree i have had loads of worldwide orders (not on CC cart though) previously NO problem at all

Just in forum with this in case it was a CC Cart related problem

This morning his £350.00 order has gone in through Paypal Fine

All confirmed address seller protection and all, so i guess that answers the question :: CC cart works fine , conversion and all !!

Thanks for help Viv
