Excuse my stupidity but if I am already a merchant at authorize.net and my website is The Blacklight Shop and my SCC is for The Blacklight Shop my question is why do I need this module why isn't my present account with Authorize.net not suitable for the SCC.

Because anyone who uses authorize.net with a shopping cart system has to install their module. That is their deal not CoffeeCups. It is like that with all shopping cart systems to my knowledge.
