There has some discussion about HTML in the header area simular to the footer. I've long used the footer for Google Analysis and contact information. I realize I could put a Store Temporarily Closed notice there, however, such a notice would be far most obvious to the potential buyer in the header. Any progress in this area. I like the ease of SCC Pro and would perfer to not get involved with changes source code as I had to before the footer was added, I think, seems so long ago.
Thanks

I do not know of a way you can put it in the header but you can put it on your home page. This way clients will see it for sure.

Hiya Sally,

Have you thought about maybe just making a complete backup of your shop files and storing them somewhere for when you want it back opened, then change your store format to a catalog for the christmas break you want to take with it? I wouldn't think that would be too hard, and that way having a nice image on the home page about it being closed would be plenty without people accidentally missing it and still being able to purchase. Just thinking about options is all :)

Why not just put a Store Temporarily Closed notice big, bold, and smack center of the home page? Easy to implement and remove.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Search may bring up an individual item rather than the Home page. It would be better if the store closed message was on each page, so the header. Perhaps an image and use the notice as a logo. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

If you're just planning to close for the holiday for a few days or a week, you could also just alert them in the same areas you're planning that the shipments will be delayed due to the holidays and still be able to take orders. Just another possibility without having to lose any business :)

I just put a large RED message on the cart page. Not too large and silly looking though!

They can browse around your store and it won't matter if you're on holidays. It's only if they want to buy something it will matter, so when they hit the cart page, they'll know you're not there.

Something as Jo Jo suggested, away until such a date is exactly what I do, and shipment will be delayed. Up to them if they want to still order with delayed shipment. :)

The cart page, what a logical place to put a store closed notification, never thought of it. Will do and add the estimated back in business date.
Thanks so much!

You could also use .htaccess or Web Access Manager to reroute everything to a "The Store is Closed" "mini-site" that no matter which pages they are directly linking to, they end up there.
I've used this technique when I don't want anyone to see that they are on my backup site.
A simple .htaccess rewrite and it's virtually completely invisible.

I will admit that I've done it more manually than with WAM but the concept should be the same.
Eventually I hope to use WAM on a much more regular basis.

Bearing in mind that many of the small busineses that use Cart Creator don't have staff to cover holiday breaks, it may be that a 'vacation setting' like the one used on eBay and in some other carts may be a worthwhile later addition to the program.

Am thinking of a warning flag on EVERY page stating something along the lines of 'the owner of this shop is away till ***user defined***, you can purchase items, but items will not be despatched till we return".

If someone can think of something more elegant, be sure to add it to the suggestions thread. :)
